A coalition of nearly 190 organizations representing healthcare consumers, payers, and providers has urged Congress to enact the Stabilize Medicaid and CHIP Coverage Act to support 12-month continuous eligibility for adults enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). This initiative addresses the significant churn in coverage caused by inefficient paperwork, burdensome reporting requirements, and temporary income fluctuations, often resulting in eligible enrollees losing coverage and later re-enrolling. Continuous eligibility has been shown to improve health outcomes, reduce administrative costs, and ensure more stable access to care, particularly for vulnerable populations. States like Massachusetts and Oregon are already implementing policies to provide continuous eligibility for adults, with Massachusetts extending this to 12 months for all adults and 24 months for homeless individuals over 65, and Oregon launching the OHP Bridge to maintain coverage despite income fluctuations. https://lnkd.in/gAvwgrTD I #Medicaid #CHIP #CMS #HealthInsurfance #HealthData Healthcare Innovation

Epic plans to transition all its customers to a new government-backed medical records exchange, TEFCA, by the end of 2025. TEFCA, launched in December, aims to streamline the complex process of exchanging patient records across various healthcare organizations. Diverse data formats and stringent privacy regulations like HIPAA currently hinder this process. Given its significant market presence, Epic's support of TEFCA is anticipated to enhance the exchange's credibility. Additionally, the interoperability network Carequality, which includes Epic as a member, is aligning with TEFCA's standards to ensure secure, appropriate, and more widespread health information exchange. https://lnkd.in/dYfZnPTD I #TEFCA #Epic #HealthData #EHR #Interoperability CNBC

Safety net hospitals are critical in serving marginalized communities. Still, inadequate Medicaid payment rates that often do not cover costs hinder their ability to advance health equity, leaving these hospitals in chronic financial distress. While states provide supplemental payments to address these gaps, they are often insufficient, resulting in limited operating capital for basic maintenance and necessary services. Recognizing these challenges, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued a new rule, "Managed Care Access, Finance, and Quality," which allows states to use the directed payment program to promote parity between Medicaid and commercial payment rates. This rule gives states greater flexibility to support safety net hospitals, stabilize their finances, and invest in programs that serve vulnerable populations, advancing health equity. https://lnkd.in/gZEqNKhd I #Medicaid #SafetyNetHospitals #HealthEquity Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is moving forward with a July 2022 memorandum to align the department's health information technology strategy and investments. HHS has proposed a rule titled "Acquisition Regulation: Information Technology; Standards for Health Information Technology," requiring healthcare entities contracting with the department to adopt HHS standards for data exchange. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure consistency in technology standards across contracts, hospitals, and healthcare providers. It could also expand HHS' influence over health technology, potentially affecting regulations related to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity in healthcare. https://lnkd.in/gNKhK4dS I #Interoperability #HealthData #ArtificialIntelligence #HealthPolicy Fierce Healthcare

Over the past decade, public health information exchange has seen major advancements, with many hospitals and physicians now reporting data electronically. However, gaps in data exchange remain, especially among small, rural, and critical access hospitals. In 2022, about 75% of hospitals reported facing at least one challenge in public health reporting, as highlighted in a Health IT Buzz column. Fortunately, various initiatives are underway to tackle these issues and enhance interoperability between healthcare providers and public health authorities (PHAs). https://lnkd.in/gNvMd_YR I #PublicHealthData #ElectronicHealthRecord #EHR #EHRData #HealthData #HealthInformationExchange #Interoperability
