    It's been a while since we did an Employee Spotlight, so let me kick it back off by introducing myself. Hi 👋 I'm Kelly Whelan, Higher Logic's Content Marketing Manager. I joined Higher Logic in 2022 and took over our LinkedIn this year. My favorite thing about my job is getting to continue working with association and nonprofit professionals - before this job I spent 10 years working in marketing for nonprofits and associations and I'm really inspired by their dedication to their mission and members. Sometimes I also enjoy making memes 😁😅 Outside work, I like to roller skate, crochet, read, pet cats, and eat delicious food. I'm located in Raleigh, North Carolina and since I moved here in 2020 I've made it my mission to check out as many cafes, bookstores, bubble tea places, and other fun things as possible. I'm also a regular attendee of the Carolina Ballet's annual Halloween performance - and I ALWAYS dress up (the picture below is my outfit for Dracula, complete with fang earrings and a coffin ring).     When was the last time you checked your member retention rate? Having a healthy association isn’t just about bringing members in – it’s about keeping them too. If lots of members are lapsing and leaving, pretty soon you won’t have any left! Monitoring your member retention rate can help you identify positive or negative trends early, so you can get ahead of it if you see too many members choosing not to renew. But how do you calculate your member retention rate in the first place? If you need a refresh, here's the formula: ((ME-MN)/MS) x 100 Now let's break it down for those of us who haven’t taken a math class in a while: - ME = Members at the end of a time period - MN = New members acquired during a time period - MS = Members at the start of a time period So, to calculate your Member Retention Rate: 1️⃣ Determine the time period (e.g., annual, quarterly). 2️⃣ Determine how many members you had at the end of that time period. 3️⃣ Subtract how many members you recruited during that time period. 4️⃣ Divide that total by how many members you had at the start of that period. 5️⃣ Multiply by 100 to get the retention rate percentage. 🔗👇 For a detailed step-by-step guide, check out our blog post, linked in the comments! Now you’re ready to monitor – and take steps to improve - your member retention rate! Some of the ways you can do this are: 🔸 Personalized Member Experience: Tailor your messages and offerings to to address members' specific interests and needs. 🔸 Engagement Opportunities: Use networking opportunities, like an online community, events, volunteer and mentoring programs, and more to enhance member involvement. 🔸 Member Recognition: Acknowledge member achievements and contributions to foster loyalty – for example, you can do this using gamification tactics and awards. 🔸 Continuous Feedback: Regularly seek and act on member feedback to demonstrate your commitment to their satisfaction - this might be as simple as posting a poll in your online community! Retaining members isn’t just a metric; it’s about building a thriving, engaged, and loyal membership community.
