    🤱 Motherhood in the U.S. is an impossible task. Let’s talk about moms working. Moms juggling childcare, finances, career goals, housework, relationships, health — and still being told they’re not doing enough. For some moms, managing the household full-time may be the only option. In 2023, 15% of moms had to stay home due to a lack of childcare, according to a report from Motherly®. Others return to work postpartum out of financial necessity and then face insufficient workplace policies, lack of privacy for breastfeeding and pumping, and debilitating sleep deprivation. The postpartum phase impacts nearly every aspect of a woman’s health: her mood, digestion, strength, energy, and more. It can take up to two years (!!) for hormones to return to pre-pregnancy levels. These challenges are exacerbated by feelings of inadequacy and guilt — for leaving your baby, struggling at work, never living up to societal expectations. Rates of postpartum depression have increased over the last decade, rising sharply during the pandemic. Mothers feel like they’re failing. But we aren’t broken. The system is. At Chiyo, our mission goes far beyond providing optimal nutrition for every stage of the maternal journey. We’re committed to raising the standard of maternal care and changing the culture of motherhood for the better. Initiatives like Paid Leave for All, flexible working hours, remote work options, and subsidized childcare can create a more equitable system through meaningful policy change.  We’re already seeing this in action: - Germany’s 36 months of parental leave - Japan’s free daycare for all children under 2 - Finland’s guaranteed flexible hours and hybrid work options We’re pushing for policies like these that support the profound work of every mother — whether she’s managing a career, running a household, or navigating the intricate balance between the two.
