Should you build a Locum App or website first? 📱🌐 Here’s how I think about this: The challenges of starting a mobile app do not lend themselves well to a self-funded startup agency. Why? 💰 Costs & Speed Creating your own branded mobile app can be pricey due to custom development and ongoing maintenance. When bugs or fixes inevitably occur, you are not only initially in the red but also slowed down by app store reviews. When you're getting up and running, speed is your friend. 📈 Distribution With mobile apps, there is more friction for locums to sign up and apply for jobs. They cannot see how many active jobs you have, so onboarding may require more manual touchpoints or marketing efforts. Additionally, it is hard to leverage other platforms like Facebook groups to grow your marketplace organically. For example, Airbnb listed homes on Craigslist and funneled traffic from there to their website through links. You can do the same with your locum website, streamlining onboarding and then marketing to them directly. 📣 All that being said, once you have gained traction, established your agency, and have a surplus of jobs, a mobile app may become a more viable option to work in tandem with your website to take the candidate experience to the next level. And to note - With Hirepad, you get all the features of a locum mobile app on the web without the price tag, development headaches, and initial distribution challenges.
