Non-profit organization supporting the awareness and education of male breast cancer
About us
HIS Breast Cancer Awareness is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization supporting the awareness and education of male breast cancer. Founded in 2009 by a BRCA2 positive brother and sister who have both been diagnosed with breast cancer. We are a brother and sister who have both been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Our family history has been affected by several different types of cancer over the years. We founded HIS Breast Cancer Awareness in 2009 because we found it difficult to obtain information specific to Breast Cancer in Men even though several other female and immediate family members have lived with and dealt with Breast Cancer. We are both BRCA2 Positive. We have 5 children between us (all boys). Because each of our son's has a 50/50 chance of also being BRCA2 Positive, our goals are to create a life where this disease does not exist or can be easily managed or personally avoided by their day to day lifestyle. HIS Breast Cancer Awareness is a good information source for Male Breast Cancer. We are here to help educate and bring awareness that not just women may have to deal with the risk of or a positive diagnosis of breast cancer. Whether you have a family history of breast cancer, have been tested genetically or just want to take precaution methods for a healthier life, HIS Breast Cancer Awareness is here for you.

Let's dive into the third and final organization we're giving back to in support of #BreastCancerAwareness, HIS Breast Cancer Awareness. Women aren’t the only ones affected by breast cancer. In fact, 1 out of 1000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. HIS Breast Cancer Awareness is dedicated to spreading awareness about men’s breast cancer and providing free resources to those diagnosed and/or impacted. Cancer doesn’t discriminate, which is why HIS is a trailblazer in this space, openly discussing how breast cancer affects cis men and trans women alike. Very important information about melanoma and genetic risk.
Only a small percentage of melanoma is hereditary, but knowing about CDKN2A in the family totally changes screening for melanoma and pancreatic cancer. Martha's story shows how family outreach is super important for CDKN2A families.

On July 25, 2024, JAMA Oncology published the article "BRCA1, BRCA2 and Associated Cancer Risks and Management for Males". This peer-reviewed paper was spearheaded by CureBRCA's Chief Science Officer, Heather H. Cheng, MD, PhD, with key contributions from Kara Maxwell, MD, PhD, Bryson Katona, MD, PhD, and Jeffrey Shevach, MD, along with a distinguished team of international experts. The paper compiles approved guidelines for men with BRCA mutations, providing statistical insights into cancer risks. The collaboration of esteemed international experts in oncology, genetics, and urology has resulted in a valuable resource for BRCA carriers. The concept for the paper emerged from discussions at the annual "CureBRCA Collaborative," which brings together renowned experts to address unmet needs in the BRCA patient/carrier population. It is our foundation's hope that this publication will empower BRCA carriers, by giving them actionable steps to prevent cancer. A companion tri-fold brochure (intended for a lay audience) summarizes the recent BRCA Guidelines for Men, and is available at https://lnkd.in/gjqEZsxn. The BRCA Research & Cure Alliance (CureBRCA) is a registered Illinois not-for-profit private foundation founded by philanthropists Michael and Tanya Polsky. CureBRCA’s mission is to advance the knowledge, prevention, and treatment of individuals and families affected by BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations.
