🎉 Please welcome two new SOTA open-source contributions in computational pathology! 🚀 We’re excited to introduce our latest breakthrough in computational oncology – CellViT-Hibou-L! This new cell segmentation and classification model builds on the strengths of the original CELLViT model and takes it to the next level. With the power of our foundation model, Hibou-L, we’ve managed to outperform nearly every benchmark. 🎯 CellViT-Hibou-L is available under the Apache 2.0 license with a non-commercial use clause, inheriting the original CELLViT license. But that’s not all! 💥 In even bigger news, Hibou-L is now available under the Apache 2.0 license with no restrictions – meaning free commercial use! We’re eager to see how it drives advancements in both research and industry. 🌍 🔗 Explore more: - CellViT-Hibou-L on Hugging Face: https://lnkd.in/en3mWpSG - Hibou-L on Hugging Face: https://lnkd.in/eukAdRbH - Updated paper: https://lnkd.in/ex7Uz_bC Let’s push the boundaries of what’s possible in medical imaging together! 💪 #AI #ComputationalPathology #DigitalPathology #CellSegmentation #GenAI #MedicalImaging

Is Open-Source AI the faster and more accessible cure for cancer? Groundbreaking models released for free! Leading startups such as Paige have released their foundation models under open source licenses. In my latest Hippogram, I delve into open spurce foundation models in healthcare. Digital Pathology startups like Paige, Bioptimus kaiko.ai and HistAI have started to release their foundation models as „open source“ and are setting new standards in medical AI. Even Microsoft is contributing to this novel open source ecosystem. There is still work to be done, to make these models commercially useful. Regulations and Open Source environments are challenging. It would also be great if our European University Hospitals would start releasing their data as commons. My insider network tells me that just the opposite is happening. Some directors of pathology institutes in Germany do not hesitate to give exclusive access to data to Taiwanese or US based AI companies in exchange for dollars. There is an urgent need for open licensing of the health data we consent to. Giving our consent for research, does not equal to giving our consent for exclusive commercial deals. This will keep startups back from developping open source alternatives, and allow others to set the new open standards. Link in the comments! thx to Falk Zakrzewski and Walter de Back from Katana Labs for the support.
