Helping first responders work more safely and effectively so they can save lives.

About us

Our company was founded by serial entrepreneur, firefighter, and EMT Sam Massa in 2011. With a background in stage lighting from his former DJ business and an interest in off-road/towing lights from his biofuel business days, emergency vehicle lighting was a natural transition for Sam as he joined Summerville-Bunnlevel Fire & Rescue. This experience really hammered home to Sam the importance of being able to see to do the job – because when you’re working on the side of the road at 2am, you can’t do the job unless you can see the subject of the incident. Sam quickly got to work on bringing new, innovative LED scene lights for fire trucks and ambulances to market and HiViz Lighting, Inc was born. Fast forwarding a decade and some change, our FireTech brand of lights boasts an entire portfolio of the most innovative, reliable, and durable scene and warning lights for fire apparatus and ambulances. We also innovated the traditional business model of the industry by backing up our products with top-notch customer service (call us anytime, literally) and the industry’s only advance exchange lifetime warranty. In true Sam Massa fashion, we’re also known for questioning the norm; for stepping back to look at things from the first responder point of view to understand how products need to function in the real world. We’d rather burn it all down and rebuild from the group up than do something just for the sake of “that’s how it’s been done for years.” This line of thought has pushed our company to new levels, with the introduction of communication protocol HiViz Connect and its line of smart products for emergency vehicles. As we evaluate the future-looking landscape of the public safety industry, we know software is key. HiViz has reinvented itself with a dual purpose; robust hardware married to the most versatile software on the planet. By focusing on hardware now and software over and over, HiViz is leading the charge as a tech company focused on saving lives.

Updates

  • As many of you are probably aware, last week our home was part of the devastation in Western North Carolina brought on by Hurricane Helene. Because of that we unfortunately weren't able to do our normal posting for the new episode of The 24/48 Podcast . With that said, we'd like to take the time to give Tablet Command the love they deserve for their episode. For our Season 2 final episode we are joined with Andy Bozzo, co-founder of Tablet Command. Tablet Command is an incident response and management software that streamlines incident management and improves firefighter accountability. 👨🚒 Andy shares his journey from firefighter to tech entrepreneur by recounting how the idea for Tablet Command was born to having to ask people for money in the early days. He also shares what it's like have a tech product in the fire service where sales cycles can take anywhere from eight days to eight years. Andy also discusses his love for the fire service and how he is still an active firefighter. Finally, he talks about what Tablet Command is looking for in the future. To get a deep dive on all things Tablet Command, head over to your favorite podcast streaming platform and give the episode a listen! And just like that, we've reach the last episode of Season 2 of The 24/48 Podcast. We're not crying, you are😳 If you'd like to support Western North Carolina in its time of need, head to the link in the comments.

  • So many options, where do we begin?! 😲 New to the FireTech product line, the Guardian Jr. Taillights are a great addition to your truck that will really give it that finishing touch. Now let’s talk about all the options available when it comes to customizing your taillights. Let’s start with the bezel: you can do these fixtures as individual fixtures, or you can have them with a single bezel, a triple bezel, or a quad bezel. Moving on, you also have the option to mount them flush with the recess or with a standoff that comes included with the kit, allowing them to protrude slightly from the housing for off-angle viewing. Lastly, you can pick from chrome or black for the aluminum housings. Ten-8 went with our flush recess quad bezel in a chrome housing and man does it look good! 😍 What do you want your tail lights to look like? • Today we’d like to reminisce on the early days of HiViz. As many of you know, we got our start with the FireTech Brow light. What is there not to love about it? It features spot, flood, and scene optics and ranges from 19,000-30,000 lumens, depending on size. Early on in the HiViz history, before we had even sold one, Sam was attending a show with an E-One dealer in Florida to show off the fixture. While there, he was invited to an event at night on the beach. Since he wasn’t really able to give a full demo during the show he brought along the Brow light with him to give everyone the full experience of what it could do. 🤩 Long story short, this resulted in a huge win for HiViz because it turned into first big fleet account we ever won! 😎 Western North Carolina still needs help as it goes through the process of rebuilding what was destroyed by Hurricane Helene. • How do you control the smart HVC lighting system? You simply use a single E-master switch and then you use the park break, just like you would in any traditional fire truck on the road today. 🚒 When the park brake is engaged, the system knows that you’re responding and will operate in the department-selected responding mode. When you engage the park brake after arriving on scene, the system will switch to the on-scene mode, again as selected by the department. Along with that, there are light sensors on the lightbar that that calculate the amount of light around you to decide whether to be in day or night mode. Lastly, if you don’t want to configure your lightbar out of the box, the system operates with responding day, responding night, on-scene day, and on-scene night in a default configuration that we’ve selected using red and white color options.  👍 How will you configure your OMEN? • Can the FireTech OMEN warning lightbar double as a scene light? 🧐 Technically yes -- but it’s not designed to be a high output scene light like our FireTech Brow light or FireTech Guardian. If you’re building an F550 or an ambulance, where you don’t have a ton of flat real estate to put a full-sized proper scene light, the OMEN can function as a supplemental white light. However, the optics in OMEN were designed to be looked at; the optics in a scene light are designed to put light on a target to let you see the subject of observation. To put it plainly, scene lights and warning lights really are different tools with different optical configurations. While yes, you can steady burn the white circuit and it does help you see after dark, a scene light is a purpose-built instrument designed to help you have maximum visibility. So, what do we suggest? We suggest mounting a Brow light underneath OMEN on the extruded track system and this will give you the perfect scene lighting for whatever situation you’re facing.  🫡 Let us know your thoughts in the comments! • Everyone gather around, it’s time for another story time with Sam! In today’s edition, Sam tells us all about one of his first fire calls. Details include: bonking heads, rolling on the ground like a turtle, and the loudest horn you’ll ever hear in your life. Drop your funny first fire call stories in the comments! • Can the FireTech OMEN have a white light flash while responding? Yes! 😁 OMEN comes equipped with five colors on the middle row of the lightbar. Choosing from red, green, blue, amber, and white, you can change the color whenever you need, as you see fit. In addition to the warning capabilities of the center row, it is also designed for other functions such as traffic directing, scene functions, and command functions. Using the track system on the OMEN, you can also mount a FireTech Brow light directly to the warning lightbar. With this setup, you can flash the FireTech Brow light with the E-master to make a very high intensity (28,000 lumens) forward facing scene light turn into a white warning light as well. What color warning would your department be using? 🤔
