About us
The Hoboken Dual Language Charter School (HoLa) utilizes the 90-10 immersion approach to provide a robust academic curriculum through instruction in both Spanish and English, with a range of opportunities for creative expression and experiential learning. Research demonstrates that the 90-10 model is the most effective form of immersion education, in terms of both academic and linguistic outcomes. Following this model for the early Elementary grades, at HoLa, 90% of instruction is delivered in Spanish in grades K-2, with one daily period of English Language Arts. Starting in 3rd grade, instruction gradually shifts to 50% of academic content delivered in Spanish and 50% delivered in English. Immersion classrooms are dynamic, creative spaces. Our teachers implement innovative strategies to facilitate comprehension and communication, integrate linguistic and academic content, and differentiate instruction. We believe bilingualism is a critical 21st Century skill that builds bridges and brings communities together, whether they are next door or across the globe.

It was a pleasure to host a Deloitte #ImpactDay team at HoLa this week, as we have done every year for over a decade. This year, in addition to hands-on projects school wide, the team worked with Middle School students on a case study, bringing the skills students have been learning in Financial Literacy class to life, and challenging them to find practical and creative solutions to a real world scenario. Thank you to all of our volunteers! It was a wonderful day of learning!
Today is one of my favorite days at Deloitte—our annual day of service, #ImpactDay. Each year, Impact Day is an opportunity for our people to come together with one another, our nonprofit relationships, and alliances to drive meaningful change in the communities where we live and work. This year is especially meaningful as it marks the 25th anniversary of Impact Day, and 25 years of reflecting our purpose in action. Today, I had the privilege of volunteering with a group of Deloitte professionals at Hoboken Dual Language Charter School (HoLa). We had the opportunity to interact with HoLa middle school students and help them build problem-solving skills during a case study activity, “Deloitte’s Pizzeria”—they were full of creative ideas and their energy was contagious! I always walk away from Impact Day with reinforced pride in Deloitte’s commitment to making an impact that matters—on days like today and throughout the year.
