About us

The mission of Philip’s Academy Charter School Newark (also referred to as PACS Newark) is to inspire diverse learners in a rigorous and innovative environment that cultivates resilient leadership, intellectual curiosity, and thoughtful stewardship. Our school’s core values are to provide students with the love and support that they need to build a strong foundation for life. At PACS, we believe that learning happens everywhere, both inside and outside of the classroom. In addition to the academic core, we instill in our students a hunger and determination to forge their own life paths, realize their dreams, and reach their full potential. Accordingly, we promote and recognize the importance of ethical decision-making and the personal values of honesty, integrity, responsibility, tolerance, and service. In sum, we prepare students for entrance into a global society by teaching respect for diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and, we recognize the unique worth of each member of the school community.

  • Love is our superpower at Philip’s Academy Charter School of Newark and investing in excellent teachers is our passion project. At Philip's, we have a long standing tradition of promoting from within and giving our top performers the ability to advance in our organization - one of the many reasons we were the only public school, charter or traditional, recognized by the State of New Jersey for our ability to recruit and retain a diverse staff of talented educators. We are pleased that Philip's Academy was highlighted by the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association (NJPCSA) in their Charters Change Lives video series showcasing diverse and inspiring voices from the New Jersey public charter school community. We thank NJPCSA for featuring PACS in this storytelling project, which will be advertised across their social media channels for state lawmakers and members of the public during Charter Schools Week, May 12-18. Please follow NJPCSA on social media and share the video to spread the good news about Philip's Academy to your network!

  • What makes Philip's Academy different? Ask the families of our graduates, and they might say that Philip's Academy sets students up for success at some of the most selective schools in the area. • Philips Academy Charter School is dedicated to the empowerment and uplift of every member of our community - students, parents and our staff. That is why, throughout the year and especially during Financial Literacy Month, we seek to engage our entire community around this critically important subject. Understanding finances fosters responsible money management for our youth, empowers families to make informed decisions, and supports teachers in guiding students towards financial independence. By addressing financial literacy, Philip's Academy Charter School seeks to foster lifelong financial wellness, the cornerstone of overall wellness. One of the ways we seek to engage our community is via social media. You can find our Financial Literacy Month posts on Twitter (twitter.com/pacsnwkpress) and Instagram (instagram.com/pacsnwkpress) by searching the hashtag #FinLitAtPACS. You can also visit bit.ly/HelpFalconsFly to see some of the subjects covered and resources shared this month.

  • Preparing students for academic success at some of the best schools in the area - that is what Philip's Academy has been all about for more than 35 years. Our students, supported by their families, work hard to excel in and out of the classroom, and we are proud to play our role in preparing them for what's next. The Class of 2024 has helped us continue this tradition, earning their way into some of the most competitive schools in the region, along with significant scholarships for many students. We look forward to sharing their stories as the weeks move forward, and whether as a potential employee or financial supporter, we invite you to support these efforts and help make dreams reality.

  • Public schools like Philip's Academy are where the future is shaped. There is nothing more crucial to the future of this country and the world than the institution of public education. Public schools empower, uplift and prepare children to become the leaders of tomorrow. They also power our economy - studies have shown that for every $1 invested in public education in the US, there is a return on investment of $2, and that's just considering future student earnings. It takes a lot of dedicated, talented people to keep the school doors open and to perform the critical work necessary for the families we serve - administrators like Ms. Guy, Ms. Springs, and Ms. Barimah; business office staff like Mr. Morgan; social workers like Ms. El-Amin and Ms. Barrett; Operations/Facilities staff like Mr. Scruggs and Mr. Watson; and others not pictured here, such as Director of Enrollment Ms. Bernard. To every professional who contributes to making Philip's Academy what it is, we say #ThankYou. During Black History Month, we proudly recognize the contributions of Black educators and school professionals. From Peter H. Clark (the first Black teacher in public education) to our current staff members, Black Americans have played a critical role in this important field. #BlackHistoryMonth #newarknj #irvingtonnj #eastorangenj #philipsforward #blackeducator #blackteachers
