She is the first female commercial astronaut pilot, the first African American commercial astronaut and the only African American woman to ever be a mission pilot! We chose her for the month of August because August 12-13 is the Perseid Meteor Shower, the most popular meteor shower of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, where the Perseids bring between 50-75 meteors per hour in rural locations. 🏙️🇺🇸🛩️ Next month - SEPT 2024 - we sit down with HEATHER “LUCKY” PENNEY, USAF who answered our nation’s call on 9/11. She was a 25-year old first lieutenant and the first woman to serve in her Air National Guard unit at Andrews Air Force Base outside of Washington DC. That morning, it became clear that our country was under attack, terrorists using our own commercial airliners to strike the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon and heading toward the White House. Penney and her wingman scrambled their F-16s and took off to intercept the last airplane “by any means necessary.” Since there was no time to arm their F-16s, this meant they were on an unheard-of kamikaze mission to fly their jets into that final airliner.
