Recovery Is Possible!

About us

Hope Haven is a Therapeutic Community that provides a foundation of recovery for individuals and families impacted by Substance Use Disorder so they can build healthy independent lives. Hope Haven was founded in 1978 by Arietta Black and Alice Trotter. Concerned with the lack of resources for women in early recovery from alcoholism, they went door to door gathering signatures of support, which they leveraged into a grant from Lance, Inc. Hope Haven used those funds to open its first home, serving five women seeking to rebuild their lives on a solid foundation of recovery. Today, Hope Haven is a licensed Therapeutic Community, which is a national best practice for the treatment of Substance Use Disorder. We serve more than 300 men, women, and children annually, including individual men and women, single moms with kids, single dads with kids, and intact families. Residents complete our long term program that consists of individual and group counseling, workforce development, job readiness, medical care, housing placement assistance, and more, preparing them for healthy independent living.

This May, we are leading a content series conversation around Addiction and Recovery for our #SpotlightOnCLT. We will focus our spotlight on nonprofits whose core work supports individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) or addiction and who offer programs for transition and recovery. This series allows us to explore crucial work being done, educate the community, and explore the given topic through the lens of the nonprofit community- breaking down who does what, how to get involved, and connecting resources. This month, we are giving thanks to Hope Haven Inc. who not only provide resources to our community for those struggling with addiction, but who are helping us shine a light on this important topic all month long. We've put together a guide to nonprofits who share their love, guidance, and support with individuals and families dealing with substance abuse disorders and the long (but hopeful) road to recovery. Please read and share this guide: https://lnkd.in/dnaRRQ3V

The potency of fentanyl is astonishing – just a minuscule amount, equivalent to what fits on the tip of a pencil, can trigger a fatal overdose. But hope is powerful, too. That's why we focus on the crucial mission of addiction recovery. 💙 If you would like to learn more about Hope Haven or support our work, be sure to join us for our 24-hour Day of Hope virtual event on April 16th. Therapeutic Communities, like Hope Haven, are drug-free environments in which people with addictive problems live together in an organized and structured way to promote change toward recovery and reinsertion in society. They are a national best practice for the treatment of Substance Use Disorder. The largest long term outcome study of addiction treatment (National Institute on Drug Abuse Treatment Outcome Study) found Therapeutic Communities to be highly effective, and that participants who showed improved behavior after one year continued to do so after five years. If you would like to learn more about Hope Haven or support our work, be sure to join us for our 24-hour Day of Hope virtual event on April 16th!

They come to heal from Substance Use Disorder, stabilize chronic physical and mental health issues, and gain the life skills they need to live independently. Our residents are with us from six months to two years, and the hardest part of their journey is often the last step - securing affordable housing due to Charlotte's extreme shortage.
