Happy National Veterinary Technician Week! Our vet techs are an integral part of Houston Zoo’s animal health team. Some of their daily responsibilities include drawing blood, dental care, interpreting blood films, and so much more. Special shout out to our vet techs Jennifer, Katie, Jessica, and Tami for all of their hard work! 💚

You can help save birds during fall migration by turning out your lights from 11pm to 6am now until Nov. 30, with peak migration happening until Oct. 29. Bright lights can cause confusion and collision with windows. Birds from all over the world travel through Houston during their migration. Houston is on an international route for migrating birds, with a billion birds flying through our night skies each migration season. #WorldMigratoryBirdDay

Meet Theodore, or Theo for short! He resides in our African Savanna inside of our brand-new Birds of the World exhibit. You can spot him and his partner, Ellie, on exhibit with a variety of birds native to Africa. Theo is 17 years old, which also makes him the oldest bird in our African aviary. You wouldn't know it since he can actively be seen exploring his habitat and looking for his favorite—crickets. Hear more from Birds Keeper Brian!
