Filling pantries. Filling lives.
About us
Houston Food Bank’s mission is to provide food for better lives. Each year, Hh provides access to more than 150 million meals and in FY 2021, a year of COVID response, we made 207 million meals possible in 18 counties in southeast Texas through our 1,600 community partners of food pantries, soup kitchens, social service providers and schools. Filling gaps on plates, we have a strong focus on healthy foods and fresh produce. In collaboration with our community, we advocate for policy change and racial equity, and promote dialogue on ways to increase access to food and to improve the lives of those in our communities, including services and connections to programs that address the root causes of hunger and are aimed at helping families achieve long-term stability: nutrition education, health management, and help with securing state-funded assistance. We are a resource for individuals and families in times of hardship. Houston Food Bank works alongside our partner food banks in Montgomery County, Galveston Country, and Brazos Valley. Houston Food Bank is a certified member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network, with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Have you ever wondered how your local pantry keeps its shelves stocked? 🥫🥦 Pantries and other hunger-relief agencies collaborate with their regional Food Bank to ensure a steady supply of food for their neighbors. Food comes into the Food Bank from various sources, including donations from generous supporters, and is later distributed to community partners. Just this year alone, Sysco Food Service, a longtime advocate and supporter of Houston Food Bank, has donated over 600,000 lbs. of dry and refrigerated goods, which have made their way to our partner agencies, who are feeding our neighbors every day. Thank you, Sysco Food Service, for helping us keep our pantries full and our neighbors fed. 🙏🍽️ Learn more about how you can help here: https://lnkd.in/gyjH4A7d

Protein is the powerhouse that supports strong muscles, healthy tissues, and overall well-being. For kids, it's particularly crucial as it fuels their growth and helps them thrive. 🧒🍽️ Because of the support from our partners, like Tyson Foods, families across Southeast Texas have greater access to protein-rich foods that support their health and development. So far this year, Tyson Foods - Portwall has donated over 633,000 lbs. of protein-rich meats to Houston Food Bank. 🍗 These donations help us provide nutritious options for our neighbors, ensuring they have the protein they need to thrive. When our partners donate to Houston Food Bank, they’re donating peace of mind for families across Southeast Texas. So far this year, our friends at the Walgreens Distribution Center have donated over 570,000 lbs. of essential items to our neighbors. Thanks to their generosity, families not only enjoy meals together 🍽️ but also have access to vital hygiene products 🧼 and household cleaning supplies 🏠. This support allows families to focus on other expenses without making difficult choices. Learn more about how you can donate here: https://lnkd.in/gyjH4A7d

"When people are fed, futures are nourished." - Feeding America 🍏 Everyone in the U.S. should have access to the food and resources needed to thrive. Thanks to the generosity of CVS Health Pharmacy customers, we’ve received over $139,000 in general operating support, ensuring our neighbors receive the nutritious food they need. 📦🚗 Pictured: A drive-thru food distribution organized by one of our dedicated partners, Bethel's Heavenly Hands. 🍃🤝 Learn more about our mission, Food for Better Lives, here: https://bit.ly/4d097dy

Houston Food Bank offers sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. She worked closely with the Food Bank to decrease food insecurity and was a champion against the systemic injustices that drive it. May we all fight, like she did, what seem like impossible odds to make the world a better place.
