In July of 2023, the NYC Department of Buildings introduced a new rule regarding building parapet inspections. This regulation requires building owners to have their parapets annually inspected to identify any hazardous conditions by a competent inspector. Any building with a parapet that fronts a public right of way, must be inspected. Parapets need to be inspected starting as early as 1/1/2024 with the deadline to have the report prepared is 12/31/2024. With a little over 3 months left in 2024, it's important to prepare and have your parapet inspected before the deadline. Important Update for NYC Building Owners! Check out this clip from our recent webinar, where our in-house experts discuss the Pathway to Compliance for Local Law 97. With new DOB rules now in place, building owners have more time to develop strategic decarbonization plans for upgrades and retrofits, all while optimizing their budgets. Starting May 1, 2025, you’ll need to submit reports on annual greenhouse gas emissions or face fines of $268 per metric ton of CO2 over the limit. This clip highlights the alternative compliance pathways, including “Good Faith Efforts” and “Beneficial Electrification” projects, which allow buildings over the limits to develop decarbonization plans in lieu of paying fines.
