Great first product coming out of Paul Grant ‘s HumanitiesDC Independent Practitioner Fellowship. 👏👏👏
Like many, I'm guilty of not having paid too much attention to local politics in the past. Owning a home, a business, or engaging with local schools in any way will wake you up real fast... My latest project, SEVEN RISING allowed me a front row seat to examine how my own predominantly Black community chooses its leadership. Back in May, 8 of the 10 candidates that were seeking to fill Ward 7 seat on D.C. Council graciously took time from their busy campaigns to sit with me for a lengthy interview. This first short shares their answers to my final question/request: 'Look into the lens, please and complete this statement: ‘If I Lose…?’ It’s a humbling question for any one who has invested so much for a win. Nothing is more human than how we face the inevitable realities of loss... Their answers were revealing. For some, you can hear their dedication to public service, their deep concerns for the community. And their passion for addressing specific challenges... Can we learn just as much about political candidates by asking what they will do if they lose an election as we can by asking what they promise to do for our communities when they win?
