SPEAKER : Vanessa Kuersten, Nutrition and Activities Supervisor at Humboldt Senior Resource Center (HSRC) Vanessa Kuersten has over 10 years of dedicated service at HSRC, where she has shown a strong commitment to supporting seniors and their well-being. Through listening projects we support, such as The People Say, older adults make it clear: they prefer to age in place in home and community (bonus: studies show it’s cost-effective, too).  And nearly 1.5 million older adults enrolled in Medicaid receive home- and community-based services (HCBS) that help them age in the places and ways they prefer. This includes help with eating, walking, transportation, and other daily tasks. Not only is this kind of care desired—it’s lifesaving and more financially sustainable as well. In a new commentary for the Milbank Memorial Fund, TSF President and CEO Sarita Mohanty, MD, MPH, MBA, and Vice President of Policy and Programs Narda Ipakchi outline the importance of Medicaid for older adults, and how potential changes to its funding and structure could impact their ability to age at home. Rain or shine, we celebrate our incredible employees! Last Friday, we showed our appreciation with delicious food and a little fun. At our Eureka site, Cap's Food Shack and Happy Taco kept everyone well fed, while at our Fortuna site, Dominick's Tacos served up a fantastic lunch. Each employee received a meal ticket for lunch, a small token of our gratitude for their hard work. Despite the heavy rain, our Eureka team huddled under pop-up tents, proving nothing can dampen their spirit! Meanwhile, in Fortuna, employees stayed dry while channeling their creativity into a group painting project. College of the Redwoods' Health Education Hub is hosting an upcoming speaker series on becoming an Advanced Practice Clinician on Thursday, March 13th.
