Congratulations to our Director of Corporate Development, Karen Moorefield, on her retirement! For 25 years, Karen has served as a powerhouse within the firm, leading our human resources department, professional development, and taking on various marketing roles. As an Associate at HuntonBrady, Karen oversaw countless company initiatives, including the Wellness Committee, 401k and insurance seminars, and everyone’s favorite, our annual reviews. Karen has worked in the AEC industry for over 36 years and previously served in the Navy as a meteorologist and recruit company commander. Her plans for retirement are simple: “to finally stop working.” She also hopes to travel more and work on home renovations with her husband and her dog, Hoover. “What will I miss most about being at HBA? That is easy – the people. There have been over 300 employees since I started in August 2000. I have had the opportunity to get to know many of them because of my role.” Karen, you will truly be missed here at the office. HuntonBrady has come a long way with you on the team, guiding us in the right direction. Congratulations!

We are a design-oriented firm with a deep commitment to outstanding overall service. Our design teams implement rigid quality control procedures throughout the project, and the process is continually monitored through our quality control oversight procedures. We are equally committed to excellence in all aspects of project delivery and client services, whether it be design, cost control, schedule adherence, contract document production, constructability or construction phase services. The Innovus Innovation Center, located in Longwood, Florida, is a 15,000 square foot facility whose goal is to bring alternative learning opportunities to the nearby community. The center currently offers various day camps throughout the week, focusing on STEAM-based curriculums, and provides students with access to technology and equipment outside of the standard classroom setting. HuntonBrady collaborated with the client to transform an old Walgreens building into an innovative hub for students of all ages. The original open floor plan allowed our team to divide the space into multiple instructional programs. The adaptive reuse now includes common areas, wet lab, studio space, think tank, VR/AR room, mechatronics and fabrication lab, ghost kitchen, and collaboration areas. Bright colors and bold graphics turn this facility into an inspiring and exciting space for discovery and collaboration. TLC Engineering Solutions | Chad Baumer

The HuntonBrady team traveled to Lake Nona on Friday afternoon to tour the new University of Central Florida - College of Nursing building. Located adjacent to the College of Medicine and sharing the Tavistock Green, the 90,000 square foot facility will soon house UCF’s nursing program. During the tour, Project Managers Thomas Wannen and Brooke Chea, AIA led the group through all three floors of the project. They took turns explaining the different areas and unique technology planned for the program, which includes multiple state-of-the-art simulation manikins, flexible classrooms, and VR spaces. We were also able to watch as the terrazzo flooring was installed in the main lobby and got a close-up look at the detailed precast panels. Firm field trips like these celebrate the hard work that goes into a project, from pre-design all the way through construction, and we enjoy getting to share the progress with our entire team!

HuntonBrady spent yesterday afternoon in DeLand, Florida to celebrate the groundbreaking of the rebuilding of Stetson University's historic Hulley Tower. The restoration of the iconic tower will transform the campus gateway and will provide additional gathering space for students, visitors, and DeLand residents. Named for Stetson's second president, Hulley Tower served as a bell tower and mausoleum from 1934 until 2004. The upper part of the tower was dismantled in 2005 due to safety concerns over the structure after it was damaged during a hurricane. In 2023, Stetson University announced it would be reconstructing the tower to its original height of 116 feet and will include 52 new carillon bells, three of which are dedicated to the memory of students who lost their lives during a ski trip in Austria. Our team is honored to be a part of this important piece of Stetson's history, which is set to be completed later this year! BBM Structural | Zev Cohen & Associates, Inc. | CMTA, Inc. | R.J. We had a great time participating in AIA Orlando’s Golf Tournament last Friday! Before the day got into full swing, HuntonBrady Project Manager and Orlando Foundation for Architecture (OFA) Vice Chair Kyle O'Connell, AIA shared the history and goal behind the event alongside other OFA and AIA Orlando leaders. Proceeds from the tournament benefit architecture students enrolled in the 2+2+2 program at Valencia College, UCF, and UF CityLab-Orlando. Many of our team members here at HuntonBrady graduated from this program, so we proudly support events that assist the next generation of architects. And who wouldn’t want to be outside on the golf course in the gorgeous Florida weather!

Our team had a busy day last Wednesday attending not one, but two exciting AdventHealth project milestones! We started the day by celebrating the groundbreaking for the new Meadow Woods 12-bed off-site emergency department. The nearly 14,000 square foot ED will offer comprehensive emergency care to the surrounding area and provide another access point to this growing area of Orlando. The facility is set to open later this year. A few hours later, we celebrated the "topping out" of Wesley Chapel's newest tower. The 80,000+ square foot expansion and renovation will add inpatient beds, operating rooms, imaging services, endoscopy and support spaces to the existing hospital and help better serve the Pasco County community. We are grateful for our amazing project teams spanning both offices and our continued partnership with AdventHealth! The College of Central Florida (CF) celebrated the grand opening of their newest facility on their Ocala Campus last Thursday. The two-story, 42,000 square foot Center for Nursing acts as a gateway to the west side of the campus, and provides students and staff with flexible classrooms, skills labs, medical simulation space, a student lounge, collaboration areas, study space, and faculty offices. The façade features a combination of traditional collegiate brick and more modern materials, such as glass and concrete, with a dramatic canopy announcing the front entrance. As Florida’s need for nurses continues to grow, so does the need for updated and innovative teaching facilities. We are proud to have been able to collaborate with CF on this important project as they expand their nursing program!
