The third day of Clean Currents started early this morning with a 5K organized by Natel Energy and featured 25+ runners, who raced along the Willamette River.
Back at the Oregon Convention Center, the morning plenary featured an excellent roster of speakers, including: Heidi Wahto of Stantec, Stephen Wright, Malcolm Woolf of NHA, Heather Chalmers of GE Vernova, Gia Schneider of Natel Energy, Linda Ciocci of Hydropower Foundation, and special guest speaker Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR).
Senator Wyden, during his speech, reaffirmed his commitment to hydropower, and while talking about building the renewable future, he expressed his intention to put hydro on par with other renewables.
After Senator Wyden departed the dais, NHA's CEO and President, Malcolm Woolf, joined Gia Schneider, Co-Founder and CCO of Natel, and Heather Chalmers, President, GE Vernova Hydro North America; President and CEO, GE Vernova Canada at GE Vernova, for a conversation about one of Clean Currents' key themes: Innovation.
During the talk, the panelists discussed everything from designing fish-safe turbines to utilizing drones and A.I. to aid in hydropower inspection, as well as other objectives.
The theme of innovation is baked into the DNA of Clean Currents, and NHA has built out a number of ways for attendees to engage with innovative ideas, including collecting stamps from one of five stations, and then turning in the passport at the end of the event for the chance to win an e-bike!
