Thanks everyone who made it to our welcome back event for EmbeddedGR last Friday! Also special thanks to GVSU for hosting us at their excellent facilities. It was really great to meet with the community in person as we look to build EmbeddedGR into a strong and sustainable organization that enhances not only its members but the whole community here in West Michigan. EmbeddedGR is back! I’m pleased to announce that I have assumed the organizer role for the EmbeddedGR group in West Michigan (Special thanks to Paul Newton who had previously led and organized the group for many years). For those not familiar with the group, EmbeddedGR is a community (over 650 members) of individuals passionate about embedded systems. Members range from students, retirees, hobbyists and professionals/engineers from around West Michigan. All are welcome! Events usually center around a particular topic of interest to the embedded community, with guest speakers/presentations. All events are free to attend and there is no charge to join the group. Since its start in 2014 the group has held dozens of meetups, but sadly with COVID and lockdowns there hasn’t been an event since 2021. The community has never gone away and we’re very excited to reinstate regular gatherings, especially with all the rapid changes going on in the Tech world. We plan to hold quarterly events, or more if there’s interest. For our first event, we simply hope to reconnect and share ideas for the long term direction for the EmbeddedGR group. The EmbeddedGR Welcome Back Get Together will be on April 12th, from 6pm-9pm — sponsored by i3 Development and Nextpoint Design. As we begin to close out this first month of 2024, I find myself reflecting on the vibrant energy and insights gained at this year's CES. It was a phenomenal experience connecting with our past, present, and future clients and partners. The abundance of positive outlooks for 2024 not only put a smile on my face, but also reaffirmed my belief that this year is poised for solid and steady growth for product design and development. Indeed, 2023 was challenging for many. Witnessing talented individuals face job losses was disheartening, and the slowdown of multiple industries still has some wondering exactly what happened. However, these challenges have set the stage for a "correction,” paving the way for more sustainable and thoughtful growth ahead. As we continue into 2024, companies are poised to reignite innovation one step at a time. More thoughtful product and service architecture are the keys to what’s next. Though I don’t see the hiring frenzy we witnessed a few years back, I am full of confidence that the growth we anticipate will not only continue but also set a robust foundation for an even more promising 2025.
