As Permian crude production and exports have increased, the center of gravity of the US crude market has moved from WTI Cushing in the midcontinent to WTI Midland in Houston. The change is not just about a different pricing location but a different crude grade, with Midland being significantly better quality than Cushing. A new, more accurate pricing model, based on the physically deliverable ICE Midland WTI (HOU) futures contract, eliminates Cushing from the equation. In this new whitepaper, co-authored by me and Corey Stewart, Pricing Director at General Index, discover how the HOU contract is the future of U.S. crude pricing.
