There is more publicly available data on methane emissions than ever before. Check out the information available to ANYONE through the Carbon Mapper Data Portal (https://lnkd.in/gs_-7UV7) below. With the increasing global focus on methane emissions as a critical lever in addressing climate change, Carbon Mapper has made data on methane detections through satellites and airborne measurements publicly accessible. This data provides insights into methane emissions from key sectors, including oil and gas operations. For oil and gas operators, this publicly available information offers both opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, it allows operators to proactively identify and mitigate methane leaks, positioning themselves as leaders in the transition to a low-carbon economy. On the other hand, it makes raw emissions measurements visible to stakeholders, regulators, and the public at the same time as operators, which heightens accountability and the pressure to act swiftly. By leveraging this data, operators can: 🎯 Pinpoint persistent emissions across their facilities, helping to prioritize mitigation efforts. 🖊 Demonstrate responsibility in addressing emissions, aligning with ESG commitments. 💰 Avoid regulatory fines by addressing emissions flagged in Carbon Mapper’s data before they are highlighted by third parties. The availability of data like this has the potential to transform operational practices in the oil and gas sector. It strengthens regulatory compliance and can assist in reconciliation efforts. #carbonmapper #reducingmethane

Earlier this week, EPA published the calendar year 2023 GHG emissions data. Below is a brief summary of the methane emission trend from the oil and gas production segment and a discussion of likely impacts to calendar year 2025 reported emissions assuming no optional empirical data is used. However, most operators have already implemented programs to take advantage of the optional calculation methodologies even in 2024 where available. The reason why is clear upon reviewing the likely impacts to reported methane if only the revised emission factors are used to estimate emissions. Stay tuned for details on the trends and projections for the onshore oil and gas gathering and boosting segment. 👀 Also be sure to follow Iconic Air to stay up to date on new content! #methaneemissions #oilandgas #subpartw

🚨 Pneumatic Device Emissions Reductions Guide Release 🚨 Find that release along with all of our others here: https://lnkd.in/eax-8M2q
When it comes to reducing methane emissions in the oil and gas industry, particularly upstream operations, pneumatic devices have always been low hanging fruit. Now WEC💲 is creating additional incentive to reduce those emissions - both reported and actual. Nearly 23 MILLION tonnes of methane emissions from natural gas pneumatics were reported in 2022 under subpart W, and subpart W amendments require additional industry segments to include them in reporting starting in 2025. Continuing Iconic Air's series of guides, Pneumatic Device Emissions Reductions is now live in our toolbox, along with our previous guides on rule changes. 1️⃣ 0️⃣ 1️⃣ in 101 Words: What is the 3-2-1 Crack Spread 🛢 A crack spread measures the difference between the purchase price of crude oil and the selling price of refined products, such as gasoline and diesel, produced from crude oil. Crack spreads indicate short-term profit margin of oil refineries by comparing the cost of the crude oil inputs to the wholesale price of the outputs. ⛽ The 3-2-1 spread is based on the idea that 3 barrels of crude yields 2 barrels of gasoline and 1 barrel of diesel. The 3-2-1 spread is an indicator of the market, where higher spreads means supply is tight and lower spreads means an abundance of supply. #OilandGas #Sustainability Photo Cred to RBN Energy, LLC

1️⃣ 0️⃣ 1️⃣ in 101 Words: Colorado’s Comprehensive Area Plans 📜 In 2019, Colorado signed Senate Bill 181, designed to prioritize the protection of public safety, health, welfare and the environment in regulation of oil and natural gas development. The requirements from this bill created a new kind of permitting called comprehensive area plans (CAPs). A CAP is a permit that encompasses a larger area of land, which will be developed in sections over a decade. It’s intended for operators to create plans for comprehensive protection of communities and cumulative impacts to the environment. A CAP focuses on infrastructure location, Best Management Practices (BMPs), and centralization of facilities, among other development aspects. #Sustainability #OilandGas
