Chemical engineer Jess Nanayakkara reflects on her STEM journey and how her work sustains her passion while making impact in the world. In a Q&A with The Engineer, she shares: "A lot of what I love about engineering comes down to the impact of my work. The gases we make are both life critical and life enhancing. Our gases, for example, helped to keep hospitals running in the pandemic with ramped up oxygen supply. They are also used in the food industry to keep food fresh for longer, and they support life-saving research through cryo-preservation of bio-materials." "The diversity of the sectors that the business touches – and of what I do – helps keep the work fresh and interesting." "You don't have to wait until you have a degree or a stamp or a medal to be able to think about your science in a way that has global impact." — Dr. Mandë Holford, professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry departments at Hunter College and The City University of New York Graduate Center (CUNY Graduate Center) She recently won the prestigious National Institutes of Health Pioneer Award. As shared by CUNY: "Holford, a chemical marine biologist who studies the therapeutic potential of venoms from marine mollusks, was the first CUNY researcher to win an NIH Pioneer Award, which awards her $7.7 million over five years." Sarah Friar, chief financial officer at OpenAI, had a fireside chat with Nicole Small, CEO of Lyda Hill Philanthropies and LH Capital. Their discussion launched the “Pegasus Park Speaker Series” held at The Biotech+ Hub at Pegasus Park in Dallas, TX. The inaugural event welcomed 200 guests, including tenants and friends of Pegasus Park. There was also a meet-and-greet between Friar and 50 young women attendees. The students—from The Hockaday School, Uplift Williams and Young Women’s STEAM Academy at Balch Springs—were encouraged by Friar to harness connection as they navigate their path through STEM. About our connection with Lyda Hill Philanthropies: IF/THEN® is part of Lyda Hill Philanthropies' commitment to fund game-changing advancements in science & nature. We seek to further advance women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by empowering current innovators and inspiring the next generation of pioneers. We love how women in STEM share their milestones on LinkedIn! Check out this new chapter in Hillary Nana Yaa Owusu's life as she states: "Over the next few weeks, I’ll be diving into the fascinating world of Large Language Models and NLP." Thanks for sharing part of your STEM journey, Hillary. #STEMjourney #thisiswhatascientistlookslike #career
🌟 New headshot alert! 🌟 It’s official—I finally look as professional as I feel (at least on camera 😂). I know I’ve been a bit MIA here, but I’m back and ready to share some insights! Over the next few weeks, I’ll be diving into the fascinating world of Large Language Models and NLP (Natural Language Processing, for the uninitiated 😉). AI is transforming industries, making life easier (and sometimes more complicated), and I can’t help but be captivated by the possibilities. Of course, there are challenges, especially around privacy and security, but the AI community is constantly innovating to address them. So, stay tuned for more updates and feel free to connect if you’re as excited about AI as I am. Looking forward to catching up with everyone here—it’s good to be back! 👋

Part 1 of our #PSATSPodcast special episode with the medical staff of the U.S. Soccer Federation Women's National Team 🇺🇸⚽ is out now! From my standpoint, this was the best recording to date! It was an incredible conversation, full of insight and inspiration, from 4 OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALISTS 🥇🥇🥇🥇 It was such an honor and pleasure spending the time to listen to their stories. Our guests took us through their individual journeys to get to where they are, and they also shared insights on how they work together as a team. These ladies are the cream of the crop, at the absolute height of their careers. It was impossible for Paul, Eric and me not to get energized listening to them! On this episode: Head Athletic Trainer, Juliet Barnes, AT, MS, NASM-PES Assistant Athletic Trainer, Sarah Leslie Assistant Athletic Trainer, Katie Donnelley Physical Therapist, Katie Jeanfreau, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS Part 2 of this recording will drop later this week! All the best to Juliet, Sarah, Katie and KJ as they prepare the team for a friendly match against Argentina tomorrow! Drop any questions or comments here or on our PSATS Instagram post!
