The groundbreaking IIDA Design Your World program, now in its fourth year, continued its expansion to St. Louis, MO. This educational pathway program provides diverse high-school students with a two-week experience exploring commercial interior design and design adjacent career paths. Design Your World is a two-week immersive program in collaboration with the IIDA Gateway Chapter and educational partner, Fresh Artists, a non-profit providing arts funding in public schools as well as unique opportunities for emerging artists and creatives. Students develop a basic understanding of commercial interior design including the history and process of design, sustainability, ergonomics, materials and furnishings through practical learning sessions, hands-on projects, field trips, and industry engagement. DYW will also introduces the business practices of interior design, career specializations, and educational requirements—all supported by visits from designers, manufacturers, and design school representatives. We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Stacey Burns, on September 15, 2023, the former International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Mid-America Chapter, St. Louis City Center Director 2003-2008. Her infectious smile and wit, intelligence and diplomacy were known by all whom with she collaborated. Stacey began her career in 1996 as an interior designer, working for several design firms around St. Louis. Her professional career as an interior designer swiftly moved into being an active A&D rep for multiple manufacturers. The design community quickly grew to value her knowledge and insight. After many years of being a rep, Stacey decided she was up for a new challenge and ended her career working at BJC as a project manager. Stacey’s love for design lead to her involvement to IIDA. Currently known as the Gateway Chapter, her leadership and passion for furthering the interior design St. Louis community was evident by growing the city center involvement by 200% under her time in office. During her term with IIDA, the mini-Neocon event, Neotini, was created to help share the excitement, education and trends that were presented in Chicago that year and bring it to our local community. Unravel (an interior design fashion show) was also introduced during her term and is still one of the premier fundraising events for the chapter. Her legacy events continue today. She gave countless hours to the organization, even after her term. The absence of her effervescence for life, witty humor, and light will be deeply felt. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 4-8 PM at the Elks Lodge, 12481 Ladue Rd, Creve Coeur, MO 63141. All are welcome.
