I am thrilled to share my experience from the 2024 Mom and Baby Action Network Summit in Chicago! This past weekend, I stepped outside of my comfort zone to present my very first poster, "Strategies for Reducing Black Infant Mortality: A Dual-Level Approach." As a NICU nurse and entrepreneur, I’ve always been passionate about addressing racial disparities in healthcare, especially black infant mortality. Although my poster was a literature review and proposal rather than original research, being in a space where I could confidently discuss these critical issues was incredibly empowering. The summit was filled with invaluable conversations about racism and black maternal health, and I [for once] never felt like a minority! Racism and equity were at the forefront of almost every discussion, reinforcing the importance of our work. Putting together this poster was a significant milestone for me. It boosted my confidence to speak on a topic that means so much to me and to be among like-minded professionals dedicated to making a difference. Stepping into this new territory, even without a background in full-blown research, has been a rewarding experience. Entrepreneurship is about pushing boundaries and stepping into new roles, and this weekend was a perfect example of that. I’m excited about the connections made and the knowledge shared, and I look forward to applying these insights to my work at I Know Newborns, LLC . Thank you to the March of Dimes for organizing such an impactful event and to everyone who stopped by my poster to learn more about our efforts to reduce black infant mortality. #MomAndBabyActionNetwork #BlackInfantMortality #HealthEquity #NICUNurse #Entrepreneur #MarchOfDimes #HealthcareInnovation #MaternalHealth #ignitingimpacttogether

Excited to announce that I'll be presenting at the 2024 Mom and Baby Action Network Summit in Chicago, IL on June 10-11! 🎉 Join me as I discuss my poster presentation on "Strategies for Reducing Black Infant Mortality: A Dual-Level Approach." This research focuses on the significant disparities in infant mortality rates (IMR) between Black and White infants in the U.S., driven by systemic barriers and healthcare inequities. **Key Points of My Presentation:** - Despite numerous community interventions, Black infants still face alarmingly high IMRs. - Proposing a dual-level approach: combining community interventions with modifications to clinical alert tools like PEWS and NEWS to include race-specific factors. - Aim to enhance risk assessments in critical care settings and support informed clinical decision-making. I'm passionate about addressing these disparities and promoting greater health equity for all infants through I Know Newborns, LLC. Looking forward to sharing insights and engaging in meaningful discussions at the summit! **Event Details:** 🗓️ Date: June 10-11, 2024 📍 Location: Chicago, IL 📢 Theme: Igniting Impact Together: Nurturing Collaborative Solutions Special thanks to the March of Dimes for organizing this crucial event. Let’s work together to create impactful solutions and improve health outcomes for our communities. #MomAndBabyActionNetwork #InfantMortality #HealthEquity #PediatricCare #PEWS #NEWS #BlackInfantHealth #HealthcareInnovation #MarchOfDimes Join me at the 2024 Mom and Baby Action Network Summit! Feel free to share and connect if you’re attending!

This will have a positive effect on neonatal outcomes!

👏 👏 👏 This is a big win! Pregnant workers in NY will receive 20 hours of paid leave to attend pre-natal doctors' appointments starting in 2025. New York is the first state to do this -- every state should follow suit! No one should have to miss doctors' appointments to care for themselves or their baby just because they can't get the time off of work. Doctors' appointments can't be scheduled at night or on weekends, and for people who are living paycheck to paycheck, missing work for even a few hours can have severe consequences. Thank you Governor Hochul for standing up for working parents and families! It's also worth noting that these 20 hours of paid time for doctors appointments are in addition to up to 12 weeks of *paid* family leave in New York State! New York is one of 14 states that have created public paid leave programs -- now it's time for our leaders in Washington to pass national legislation so that everyone can be there for their families in the moments that matter most. https://lnkd.in/g4s7N2kz
