Fun fact: Impact Life is the first organization in Delaware to ever be awarded a BCOR grant! We are honored as this is a huge accomplishment for us and our community. The purpose of the Building Communities of Recovery (BCOR) Program is to mobilize and connect a broad array of community-based resources to increase the availability and quality of long-term recovery support for persons with substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring substance use and mental disorders (COD). Our BCOR program serves individuals 12 years of age and older throughout the entire state of Delaware. BCOR is a trauma-informed, culturally appropriate program offering a range of services for people who use drugs, including alcohol, those who are in active addiction, and those in recovery including: - Outreach and Overdose Prevention Education - Risk Management Screenings - Narcan Training - Mobile Wound Care Services - Referrals to Housing - Referrals to Healthcare - Mindfulness Sessions and Activities - Peer Support Services - Recovery Planning - Safe Disposal Events - Drug Takeback Events All services will be delivered by individuals with lived experience from diverse backgrounds. The overarching goal of the BCOR program is to enhance and expand recovery support services to improve long-term recovery outcomes for individuals with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and co-occurring mental health disorders (COD). Services are tailored to reflect the unique needs and characteristics of the communities we serve. Ready to meet the team?! Charla Sharpe – Wellness Activities Coordinator: Charla will coordinate mindfulness activities for the Recovery Community Centers (Café, HUB, and DIC) and for residents in all our recovery houses. She will facilitate some activities herself and bring in practitioners for others. Be on the lookout for soundbathing, mindfulness walks, creative writing and journaling workshops, speakeasy poetry sessions, mindful eating, moon circles, aromatherapy, and more! Brandi Parks – Project Coordinator: Brandi will assist Charla with coordination, handle data collection, and enroll clients in the program. Hannah Bartley – Outreach Nurse: Hannah will now serve as the Outreach Nurse for BCOR, continuing her great work with the harm reduction team while expanding her focus in the BCOR program. Angel Mendez – Peer Support Specialist (Congrats and yay!): Angel is being promoted to Peer Support Specialist and will provide one-on-one support, maintain a caseload, offer peer support services, and run groups to provide individualized support. Together, this team will help us build a solid community of recovery and extend our services even further.

🌟 Reflecting on an Incredible Experience at the NARR Annual Best Practices Summit 🌟 Our team had an amazing experience this week at the NARR (National Alliance for Recovery Residences) Summit in Richmond, Virginia! The event brought together passionate leaders, advocates, and experts in the recovery field to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and inspire one another. From insightful workshops and panel discussions to networking with peers from across the nation, we left feeling motivated and more equipped to continue driving positive change in the recovery community. Huge thanks to NARR for organizing such a transformative event, and to all the attendees who shared their wisdom and experiences. We are proud to be part of this incredible movement and look forward to applying what we’ve learned to strengthen our programs and services. Together, we can continue to make an impact and support recovery as a fundamental right! 💪✨ #NARRConference #RecoveryCommunity #ImpactLife #BuildingRecovery #RichmondVA #RecoveryLeadership

Here’s how they differ: 🔹 Recovery Café: A welcoming community space where individuals in recovery can find peer-led activities, group meetings, workforce development, therapeutic arts, and events that promote connection and healing. School of Recovery Groups and opportunities for peer training and service work. 🔹 Recovery Hub: A central location that offers a range of services, including peer support, job assistance, and access to health programs—empowering individuals through comprehensive recovery resources. Think structured case management services, peer support, linkage to care and more. 🔹 Drop-In Center: A safe, non-judgmental space where individuals can come for immediate support, guidance, and recovery resources. It’s open for anyone seeking help, with no appointments needed. Think casual drop in space that offer a safe environment for you to get assistance and, or referrals to a multitude of services. Q; What if I show up to the wrong one? A: Impact Life has a no wrong door policy meaning that we will direct you to the right place and ensure you are connected. We believe in authentic warm hand offs. We will get you where you need to be - with us or otherwise! ⚠️ Important Reminder: We ask that while attending any of these spaces, you refrain from using drugs or alcohol before arriving or while in the space, to ensure a safe and supportive environment for those in recovery. In the spring of 2023, the FDA approved the first over-the-counter version of naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal medicine commonly known by the brand name Narcan. This approval enabled the expansion of new delivery methods, such as the community vending box we’re unveiling at the Wilmington Recovery Café Grand Opening on September 24th from 3-6 PM at 810 North Union Street, Wilmington, Delaware. This vending box will provide easy and free access to naloxone for residents of the community. The box will be operational during Recovery Café hours and our staff and volunteers will be onsite to provide training and access. In addition, individuals will be able to scan a QR code located on the side of the box for additional training and resources. Low-barrier naloxone access is especially critical to Wilmington’s response to the overdose crisis, given the high rates of opioid-related fatalities in the area. This box is part of a larger initiative to install 50 vending boxes across the eastern United States in the lead-up to Save a Life Day on September 26th, 2024—an annual day of free naloxone distribution. These boxes are fully funded by CareSource, a leading Medicaid health insurer. The vending box will be stocked regularly with essential self-care supplies, such as drug test strips, safe sex supplies, and first aid kits, by Impact Life staff and volunteers. At Impact Life, our mission is to save as many lives as possible from the overdose crisis. This box takes our efforts to the next level, offering free, fast, and easy access to life-saving naloxone. Impact Life is also the lead organization in Delaware for Save a Life Day happening on September 26th. This event spans over 300 counties across 30 states for a national naloxone distribution event. Impact Life will host Save a Life Day events at multiple locations across Delaware’s counties, including Wilmington. For more details, visit www.soarwv.org/east. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to CareSource and SOAR West Virginia for their unwavering support in making these naloxone vending boxes and Save a Life Day a reality. Their dedication to harm reduction and life-saving initiatives is truly making a difference in communities across the country. For more information on either of these initiatives please reach out to Leslie Palladino, Director of Harm Reduction and Outreach at Leslie@impactlifetoday.org.
