About us
InclusiveSpaces project specializes in the inclusive design and evaluation of urban spaces, focusing on accessibility and social cohesion for people with disabilities and older adults. The EU-funded project aims to develop innovative solutions that embrace universal design principles and climate-friendly practices. The key tools include travel demand data and accessibility evaluation, comfort-based accessibility mapping, routing for visually and mobility-impaired individuals, digitised accessibility audits for buildings and public spaces, and a Universal Design Manual for the Built Environment. Additionally, the project would provide advanced assistive technologies such as shared electric wheelchairs, beach accessibility devices, upright tricycles, and other indoor and outdoor assistive tools. Six European cities will be the testbeds, with findings shaping actionable policies for a more inclusive, climate-friendly future.

🌍🚀MaaSLab organized the 3rd Community of Practice (CoP) in Larnaka as part of the InclusiveSpaces project, delivering an enriching and insightful session. Engaging in meaningful dialogues with local authorities, practitioners, and vulnerable communities allowed us to explore the complexities of accessibility and inclusive design more deeply. These discussions highlighted the multifaceted challenges individuals face daily—challenges that go beyond physical barriers to include social and systemic obstacles. Why does this matter? 🙂 - Accessibility is not a mere feature but a fundamental right. - Designing for all ensures that every individual, irrespective of ability, can navigate and enjoy public spaces with dignity. - Involving all stakeholders enables us to identify genuine issues and collaboratively devise practical solutions that cater to everyone's needs. The Community of Practice methodology proves invaluable, fostering knowledge exchange, challenging existing perceptions, and advocating for authentically inclusive urban landscapes. Each interaction propels us closer to crafting solutions that benefit the entire community. A heartfelt thank you to all participants! Let's continue our collaborative efforts toward a more inclusive, accessible, and community-centric Larnaka! 📷 by Angelos Philippou 🌱🚀🏙️ Build4People #InclusiveSpaces #AccessibilityForAll #SustainableCities #UrbanInnovation #CommunityEngagement

We’re proud to share the first academic publication funded in the context of the InclusiveSpaces project, authored by our partner, the University of Peloponnese. The paper, "Multidisciplinary ML Techniques on Gesture Recognition for People with Disabilities in a Smart Home Environment," explores how gesture recognition can support older adults and people in vulnerable situation in performing daily tasks. This research aligns with InclusiveSpaces’ mission to create inclusive, accessible, and climate-adaptive urban environments through innovative, user-centered solutions. By investigating practical methods like MoveNet and CNN, the study demonstrates how smart home technologies can empower users to perform tasks such as turning lights on or signaling for assistance using simple gestures. 🔗 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eybQWfFR #EU #HorizonEU #Transport #EUClimate #NewEuropeanBauhaus #EUFunded #EuGreenDeal CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency

Co-funded by the European Union, the InclusiveSpaces project aims to make urban spaces more inclusive and accessible, by promoting the involvement of people in vulnerable situations to the built environment around them. Our partner TOBEA is developing innovative solutions like the Mover iSEATRAC and iKiosk to help people with mobility challenges enjoy the beach. TOBEA's Mover iSEATRAC is a solar-powered system that allows anyone to independently enter and exit the water, while the iKiosk acts as a support station, offering mobility aids like wheelchairs and charging points. In a recent interview, TOBEA's president Ignatios Fotiou shared more about the inspiration behind the technologies, how they work, and TOBEA's commitment to inclusivity.
