On Thursday 11 March, ERTICO - ITS Europe, alongside key partners in the ITS community, marked a significant milestone in advancing gender diversity and inclusion! #TalkingITS In addition to our social campaign leading up to International Women's Day, we hosted an exclusive panel discussion on ‘Moving Beyond Manels: Addressing Gender Inequality in the ITS Industry’ at The Nine in Brussels. This event was part of a broader, industry-wide initiative, with parallel events taking place across the ITS community, including a webinar by Intelligent Transport Systems UK’s Women in ITS group, the Mujer e ITS event in Madrid, organised by our Partner Dirección General de Tráfico & ITS España as part of the Road to the ITS European Congress in Seville (19-21 May) and a panel discussion on Addressing Gender Equality in ITS Industry in Istanbul at Tech Istanbul. As coordinators of the #HorizonEU EvoRoads Project, we are pleased to invite you to contribute to this impactful initiative addressing road safety. #TalkingITS The #EvoRoads project is currently seeking feedback on its #SafetyCriteria Catalogue. This comprehensive matrix encompasses over 100 safety indicators across ten transport dimensions and it's pivotal to EvoRoads #SafeSystem holistic approach to road safety. We invite professionals in the road safety and transport sectors to provide their input on a selection of indicators from the catalogue, to ensure that they align with Europe’s road safety priorities and effectively contribute to the #VisionZero goal of zero fatalities in road transport by 2050. As the European Commission develops the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), we at ERTICO - ITS Europe emphasise the urgent requirement for a dedicated Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10) in transport.💡 Today we welcome the adoption by the European Parliament of the Report with recommendations for the 10th Research Framework Programme. FP10 should enable the innovation cycle, starting from fundamental research to pilots, moving to collaborative and pre-competitive research, and resulting in industrial implementation. This is what ERTICO has supported since its inception by the European Commission in 1991. 🔹 Ensuring FP10 supports impactful research and innovation is key to strengthening Europe’s position as a leader in sustainable and intelligent transport. 🔹 This requires strong funding commitments, simplified processes to enhance transparency, accessibility and execution, and greater public-private collaboration to drive innovation. 🔹 Strengthening synergies between FP10, national R&I programmes, and local initiatives will be essential in scaling up ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) deployment while ensuring all regions benefit from investments in transport innovation. 🌍 As today marks International Women’s Day 8th March, we reflect on the important roles women and men play in advancing gender equality in the ITS sector. #AccelerateAction 💡 Here’s how leaders are helping create a more inclusive and diverse community: • Creating inclusive workplaces: Both men and women can support an inclusive environment by addressing unconscious bias, advocating for work-life balance, and ensuring equal representation and fair pay, empowering all individuals, especially women. • Fostering female leadership: Encouraging women to take leadership roles and ensuring their voices are heard is essential. Mentorship programs and diversity training can help elevate women in leadership positions across the sector. • Breaking barriers through education and visibility: Men and women should work together to raise awareness of ITS career opportunities and amplify women’s voices through success stories and role models, inspiring the next generation of leaders. • Championing systemic change: Achieving gender equality requires challenging traditional barriers. Men’s involvement in supporting female leaders and rethinking gender roles will help build a more equitable and innovative industry. As we highlight gender equality in the ITS sector for International Women’s Day, it’s important to recognise men's critical role in driving change. Here’s how some of our male colleagues are supporting progress: 🟣Creating inclusive workplaces: Men can support inclusive workplaces by advocating for work-life balance, family-friendly policies, and flexible schedules. 🟣Leading by example, such as taking parental leave and sharing family duties, ensures women, especially mothers, have the support to succeed. 🟣Supporting women’s leadership & empowerment: True progress happens when women lead and drive change. Men should focus on enabling women to break barriers, pursue leadership roles, and challenge anti-women ideologies, fostering a more equal, innovative sector. As Coordinator of the CulturalRoad Project, we are pleased to invite you to join the project's Launch Workshop on Shaping the Future of Equitable CCAM deployment on Thursday 20th March, 15:00 - 16:30 CET.
