Donald Trump is poised to return to the Oval Office as the 47th president of the United States. While it’s unclear what Trump will prioritize for small businesses, taxes are sure to be a priority of the administration with the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a landmark measure from Trump’s first term that unleashed a slew of tax perks. Those cuts expire this year. Reducing the size of the federal government is another hallmark of Trump’s proposals. Elon Musk, who spent election night with Trump, has promised to make good on those plans as the very steward of consolidating the federal workforce. And then there's the question of eliminating direct lending at the SBA, something proposed by Project 2025.
