Gene therapy can be a life-changing treatment for some rare diseases — but it has a big financial impact. Most approved gene therapies cost over $2 million. It's important for self-funded employers to understand, prepare for, and learn how to mitigate the costs of gene therapy while ensuring quality care for their employees. Here's what we're doing to help: 💰 Securing discounts in our Advanced Network for Gene-Based Therapeutics with Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and nationally through the Synergie Medication Collective Gene+ program 👩⚕️ Developing a patient-focused, high-touch care management approach in collaboration with our local Advanced Network 🏢 Working on outcomes-based agreements with manufacturers 🤝 Partnering with Sun Life, an independent company, for national stop loss coverage Innovative strategies like these are an important step in helping to manage the high cost of these therapies.

Meet our Sunshine Award winner Francis Doran. ☀️ By day, he’s a dedicated cardiac ICU nurse at Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System and a nurse practitioner student at Thomas Jefferson University. In his personal time, Francis volunteers with The Kensington Project, providing wound care to people experiencing homelessness in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Twice a month, Francis and his team set up at McPherson Square, or “Needle Park,” distributing meals, clothes, toiletries, and more to those in need. His tireless volunteerism and empathetic approach make a profound impact on the community. His nominator shared, “He treats every single person he encounters with kindness and truly listens to them. He celebrates their small successes and grieves with them. He holds their hands and shares his heart. He does so much more than just tend to their wounds… So much judgement is passed on the homeless and mentally ill, I think it is so important to highlight the difference makers who see beyond these barriers to the person underneath it all.” ibxsocial.com/4cSMiaU #CelebrateCaring

"It's absolutely no mistake that no less than 65% of health care providers in general enter the caregiving profession because they have experienced some nature of harm... part of that is a vigilance to permit no further harm." Our Sunshine Award winners Allison Denman, Francis Doran BSN, RN, and Jasmine Hudson, MSN, CRNP, AGACNP-BC shared why they do what they do with Loraine Ballard Morrill for iHeartRadio. ibxsocial.com/3y04XTv #CelebrateCaring

It’s said that “sleep is essential for life.” And in fact, not getting enough sleep, or getting too much of it, is associated with a higher risk of dying, regardless of the cause. Members of traditionally marginalized communities are more likely to experience sleep deprivation. Seeing him on the field with his brother Quinn made the moment even sweeter. Kudos to the Philadelphia Union for developing homegrown talent. It's an exciting time for the City of Brotherly Love! ⚽ #DOOP
