Over a career spanning three decades, Prasanna Ramaswamy – known in the music world as Guitar Prasanna – has pushed the boundaries of guitar music. Apart from his virtuosic guitar playing style, Prasanna’s catalog also reveals his ability to experiment with diverse genres and weave them together in compositions that are dense with musical ideas. In the run-up to an all-day event in San Jose’s Hoover Theater where he will perform two shows and deliver three workshops, Prasanna spoke to India Currents Community Reporter Tanay Gokhale. On the afternoon of August 11, a group of more than a hundred South Asians gathered at the edge of Central Park outside the Fremont Main Library to protest anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh. They held signs that read “Stop Hindu Genocide in Bangladesh,” “Protect Our Temples,” and “Justice for Hindus,” while chanting slogans like “Hindu Lives Matter.” This vigil for Bangladeshi Hindus, organized by the Coalition of Hindus in North America (CoHNA) and other Hindu groups in the Bay Area and was not the only one. Demonstrations also took place in New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and Cleveland after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5. Read full story -

This summer, we were thrilled to have Agnee Ghosh from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism join us as our Audience Engagement Intern! "At a time when global news stories dominate mainstream media, India Currents focuses on the challenges faced by immigrant communities, important cultural events, and major issues like aging in America," she said. "Local news is critical as it keeps people informed about the issues that matter most to them in their daily lives and ensures our communities' voices are heard." With your help, we can invest in an internship program to give more young journalists the hands-on experience they need.
