We sent five of our right-of-way personnel to OAEC climbing school this week to cross-train. This will open up more opportunites for them career-wise with IEC. They spent four days in OKC getting hands-on training. “I had the privilege to come down today and observe the quality of employees we have,” Operations Manager Tony Gordon said. “A big shout out to these guys busting their tails off to become well-rounded employees.”

Oklahoma’s electric cooperatives received the 2024 Synar Award of Excellence as a result of our continued support of Special Olympics, and IEC's Rick Harvel and others pictured accepted that honor on behalf of all of us during last week's opening ceremonies. For the last few decades, IEC has turned out a huge showing at Special Olympics. We send between 40-50 volunteers each year, and they all serve with heart. It is the event our employees most look forward to, and many say it is the act of service that impacts them the most. Harvel (front, second from left) is a longtime IEC right-of-way foreman and he began volunteering with the co-op 23 years ago. He not only has volunteered alongside his co-workers, but also has included his children, siblings and other family members. We are proud that he was chosen to represent cooperatives. IEC is proud to be an employer that supports the Games and supplies our staff paid time away from work to advocate for the athletes.

Today's EPA announcement on power plant regulations raises significant concerns about our nation's energy landscape. The path outlined is unlawful, unrealistic, and unachievable.    As I have said for months, these rules present formidable challenges to electric reliability and economic stability. We must ensure our energy policies prioritize both reliability and affordability.    NRECA’s assessment of EPA’s power plant rule remains unchanged from the agency’s original proposal: • The rule is unlawful. It violates the law, exceeds EPA’s authority, and disregards Supreme Court rulings. • The technology isn’t ready. The rule mandates the widespread adoption of a technology that is promising, but not ready for prime time. • The timelines are unrealistic. The rule gives neither existing coal units nor new gas units enough time to reach compliance. As leaders in the energy sector, we must advocate for policies that prioritize reliability and affordability for all.

The boss reported to work this morning with dog treats, so it’s looking promising😏 Little Miss Ellie (short for Electra) is sweet-natured, smart and really well behaved. This week we were able to congratulate Mark Tilley on 28 years of service to the cooperative and wish him the best in his retirement. Mark’s quiet leadership was a steady force as a foreman in our operations department, with him always concerned about the whole person rather than only the work an employee performed. He mentored and cared for all those who were on his crews, and his presence will be missed throughout the entire co-op. Another good man has earned a good life with his family in retirement. It was a good day down on 23rd and Lincoln! IEC representatives attended the annual Legislative Day hosted by the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives on Tuesday. Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Todd Hiett and Speaker of the House designate Kyle Hilbert, both who represent parts of our service territory, made appearances at our meeting and spoke directly to co-op representatives, congratulating us for our efforts. We also had the opportunity to stop by our legislators’ offices to check in.
