Employee Spotlight: Frederick Cooper, Senior Systems Administrator at OG&E, recently returned from a mission trip to Tanzania where he taught computer skills at Chimala Mission. Despite frequent power outages and no internet access, the children were enthusiastic, making it a rewarding experience for Cooper. "As a Christian, I've always been motivated to serve others whenever the chance arises," Frederick said. "It's a value instilled in me by my family and one that's echoed by the OG&E Big Orange family, which encourages volunteerism and inspired my first international volunteer trip."

OG&E's 2024 Linemen's Expo was full of fun and great competition. Linemen put their skills to the test in hopes of competing in the International Lineman's Rodeo. The top three teams in the Team, Over 45 and Apprentice categories will represent OG&E on the big stage in Kansas City in October. Great job to all who participated!

OG&E employees at Sooner Power Plant lent a hand to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation to assemble 10 Shelbyville fish habitats. These aren't your average fish homes; they're constructed from durable PVC and corrugated pipe, forming 5ft tall cubes. All 10 structures were submerged at Sooner Lake where they will form a reef, offering fish a complex environment to thrive. Great work to all involved and for your commitment to sustainability and enhancing our local fishing spots!

Big Orange is home! OG&E crews returned after a ten-day deployment to assist with power restoration efforts in south Texas after Hurricane Beryl caused significant structural damage. According to CenterPoint Energy’s outage tracker, more than 2.2 million customers were initially without power. Despite the challenging conditions, OG&E restoration crews worked around the clock, re-energizing approximately 1,500 CenterPoint customers each day. “We appreciated all of the folks in the communities who encouraged our line crews, handed out snacks and water, and expressed their gratitude as our team restored power as quickly and safely as possible,” said Chris Bristol, OG&E Distribution Construction Manager. “While we return to our homes tired, we are grateful to have had the chance to help and contribute in a meaningful way.”

They put their skills to the test in our annual Confined Space Rodeo, an intense competition that simulates real-life rescue scenarios involving small spaces, dangerous materials and machinery. Congrats to the team at Sooner Power Plant for securing the 2024 championship.

Since 2017, OG&E has teamed up with Tinker Air Force Base to complete several energy conservation projects through our Continuous Energy Improvement Program, significantly reducing energy consumption across the base. Furthering Tinker's commitment to energy efficiency and reduced energy costs, this latest round of projects resulted in more than $306,000 in incentives from OG&E. It's our honor to partner with those who protect our country.
