“HA” means laughter 😂 to many of us. To the IT/OT crowd, “HA” roughly translates to uninterrupted evenings and sleep-filled nights. Besides meaning a good chuckle, “HA” stands for “high availability” which means a system that provides “higher than normal” uptime. “HA design” seeks to: 1.     Eliminate single points of failure 2.     Provide a reliable transfer or failover if some part of the system does fail 3.     Detect and alert on any failures within the system Sometimes these reliability design aspects get lost in the project shuffle with more immediate topics like optimal system sizing, tolling agreements, market strategies, etc. These reliability design decisions are often left to the engineering company on the project which can be a mixed bag. A few good decisions and minor investments can reap big rewards💲. Reach out to learn more on how Indie can help with make your projects better! Charlie Cox, Eli Tiffault, Evan Ture, Ozan Y. It’s a hot week in Texas and therefore the ERCOT market, hoping for good design practices and sleep filled nights for all!!

If you're a solar PV or energy storage project, 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲? "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵? (from California utility on a "triple-digit megaWatt" CAISO project) The answer, Indie has done something 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆... 15 years ago when much of the Indie team started working on inverter based energy projects, there was much ado about speed. Early projects were often on "soft" power grids like Hawaii or Caribbean islands (much to the delight of the on-site project teams). As projects began moving into "strong" mainland grids, some emphasis on speed was lost. Historically, supporting the power grid during disturbances was done by the big rotating mass of traditional generators (and it works well). Fast forward to today, inverter based energy projects (solar, wind, energy storage) are proliferating and displacing some traditional generation. The pendulum is swinging back to a renewed focus on speed and grid support. Standards like IEEE 2800 are gaining adoption and helping drive better performance guidelines. It's great to see and should continue evolving up to the limits of technology.  Do you want to be the tortoise or the hare? The answer is we want the speed of the hare with the steadiness of the tortoise. Fortunately in this case, we can have our cake and eat it too.
