Western Wyoming Community College in partnership with Southwest Wyoming Manufacturing Partnership, hosted a Manufacturing Day event on Wednesday, October 9th. It was our 3rd Annual Manufacturing Day held at the College. Students and educators had a chance to interact with area manufacturers, participate in career exploration workshop, tour the labs as well as engage hands-on activities to spark their interest in advanced manufacturing. Ron Wild, Regional Business Manager for Rocky Mountain Power and Business Champion for the Southwest Wyoming Manufacturing Partnership (SWMP), emphasized the value of the event as a key educational experience for the students involved. "The college and SWMP have worked together to bring in as many participating industries as possible to raise awareness about how educational and employment opportunities are closely linked and support one another," Wild explained. "One of SWMP's goals is to foster greater career awareness within the community, helping the next generation recognize their potential." “Events like Manufacturing Day are crucial because they provide our high school students with a unique opportunity to explore the variety of careers available right here in our community,” said Dr. Kirk Young, President of Western Wyoming Community College. “By connecting students directly with employers, we’re not only helping them understand the career paths that exist but also giving them insight into the education and skills required to succeed in those fields. This knowledge is vital in shaping their future and the future of our workforce.” The event was held for 8th-12th grade students and over 500 students were in attendance. The following schools participated in the event: - Green River High School - Farson High School - Mountain View High School - Saratoga High School - Pinedale Middle School - Rock Springs High School - Black Butte High School - Manila High School - Star Valley High School - Rawlins High School This year's Manufacturing Day was a tremendous success, with students and educators alike gaining valuable insight into the growing opportunities within advanced manufacturing. The event showcased the importance of collaboration between education and industry in preparing students for future careers. Western Wyoming Community College and the Southwest Wyoming Manufacturing Partnership remain committed to fostering a pipeline of talent for the region’s industries by continuing to provide students with access to career exploration and hands-on learning experiences.
