About us
Our mission is to decarbonize heavy industry by 2045: cleaning up the processes we use to make steel, aluminum and other materials and advancing a circular economy. Today, industrial emissions 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making it the largest source of emissions. And, while other sectors like transportation and buildings are falling, emissions in the industrial sector are stuck. We partner with foundations and advocates to develop campaign strategies, support the execution of campaigns, and stand up diverse coalitions to tackle industrial sectors including steel, aluminum, waste and advancing a circular economy.

Studies like this one underscore the urgent need to dramatically reduce methane emissions now. As the country's third-largest industrial source of methane, landfills represent an enormous opportunity to reign in the super-polluting greenhouse gas. We're thrilled that US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has firmly committed to updating landfill emissions regulations, and eagerly await next steps. https://lnkd.in/eaDPUPXj

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s recent $4.3 billion funding for 25 new projects across states, tribes, local governments, and regions is a game-changer in our fight against climate change. This funding aims to reduce climate pollution by an astounding 971 million tons by 2050 — equivalent to the emissions of five million homes over 25 years. Our analysis, featured in The New York Times, shows that if states fully implement their climate action plans, we could achieve at least a 7% reduction in nationwide emissions by 2030. This would be akin to taking one-third of gasoline cars off the road or decommissioning half the nation’s methane plants. Read on: https://nyti.ms/3WAtlDJ

ICYMI: This week US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) committed to updating emissions standards for landfills in 2025 to cut methane, a super-pollutant with 80 times the near-term warming power of CO2. This move is critical to #ActOnClimate and protect frontline communities.

📣 Big news! Yesterday, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) committed publicly to updating federal landfill emissions standards next year, marking enormous progress in the fight against the invisible-but-urgent problem of landfill pollution. As circular economy director Katherine B. said, this commitment by EPA is a significant step toward "science-backed, people-first solutions." https://lnkd.in/dvvQwien

Yesterday I was honored to join Senator Alex Padilla, Carbon Mapper, and residents impacted by landfill pollution for a press briefing on the EPA's opportunity to slash methane emissions and protect communities through updated standards. We need federal action to achieve methane reductions quickly and at scale. We’re excited the EPA is already at work on an update to its landfill standards, and we encourage the agency to move swiftly to embrace the latest best practices and technologies to control landfill methane emissions. Methane pollution from landfills not only heats the planet but also has very real health impacts on surrounding communities. Thank you Senator Padilla for your leadership in joining methane experts and frontline residents to emphasize the need for federal action to #CutMethane. “In order to fully combat the climate crisis, methane reduction must be a major part of our efforts and our strategy, because landfills make up the third largest source of methane in the United States. Today, we’re highlighting the need to strengthen the rules that regulate our nation’s landfills. This is not only a tremendous responsibility that we have, but a tremendous opportunity. And as the most pro-climate president in history, President Biden has the opportunity to strengthen his climate legacy and further combat the climate crisis." -U.S. Senator Alex Padilla Thank you to Senator Alex Padilla for joining calls for common-sense landfill emissions regulations that would slash greenhouse gas emissions and protect communities from harmful landfill pollution!
