About us
We want a world where everyone has the knowledge and resources they need to advance their well being. We work with changemakers that want to see equitable, thriving communities. Using data and learning, we help these organizations build a better understanding of how to best make the change they want to see. The pursuit of our company values - curiosity, integrity, compassion, and social justice - guide everything we do. No matter what we do together, getting to know you is our first priority. We design every project specifically to our clients’ needs, • Strategy – Identifying what you intend to do and why you think it will work: theory of change, theory of action, program design, strategic planning, landscape scans, and situational analyses • Data, evaluation, and learning – Exploring the change you’re making: mixed methods evaluation planning and implementation, including protocol development, data collection, analyses, reporting, and learning meetings. • Evaluation coaching – Building your capacity to integrate learning into your work: data systems design, technical assistance and ongoing support.

On June 19, 1865, General Order No. 3, a decree enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all remaining slaves in the state of Texas following the Civil War, was issued by Union General Gordon Granger. Over a century and a half later, #Juneteenth is now recognized annually as a federal holiday. It is a day for reflecting on hard historical truths, commemorating the paths paved by previous generations, celebrating Black joy and courage, and acknowledging the ongoing battle for justice and equality. We are proud to be based out of #Oakland, a town with a vibrant and storied legacy of African American history and culture: https://lnkd.in/g6DWrjBJ

As Oakland families head to graduations and teachers wrap up the last few weeks of school here in Oakland, CA, we're reflecting on this work with the Kenneth Rainin Foundation. We're inspired by the Foundation team's deep commitment to listening and learning from schools and their communities as they assess and enhance their grantmaking strategies. And we're especially grateful for the teachers, principals, literacy coaches, and literacy tutors working hard for Oakland's kids every day.
We engaged Informing Change to assess our early literacy strategies and evaluate our Education grantmaking’s impact on our goal of all Oakland children reading at or above grade level by third grade. Read our latest blog by Dana Cilono, Director, Education Strategy & Ventures, which recaps six findings and recommendations to strengthen our impact.
