PSLF and PSCAD Requirements in Arizona At INS Engineering, we help our clients meet the strict modeling requirements set by Arizona Public Service (APS) for renewable energy projects, by using our expertise and proprietary automation to efficiently deliver high-quality PSLF and PSCAD (EMT) models. As of April 1, 2024, PSCAD models are required for all interconnection requests in APS’s new cluster studies, including the current APS Transitional Cluster Study, where EMT models are key to meeting interconnection standards. As Arizona expands its renewable energy capacity, accurate modeling is essential to maintaining a reliable grid. If you're working on renewable projects or facing interconnection challenges, we’re here to help ensure compliance and deliver high-quality models. Important ERCOT Market Update! The Nodal Operating Guide Revision Request 245 (NOGRR-245) has been approved. This update introduces new Preferred voltage ride-through curves in alignment with IEEE Standard 2800-2022. All inverter-based resource (IBR) projects are now required to conduct model quality tests using both the legacy voltage ride-through curves and the new Preferred curves. Failure to properly configure the model could pose significant challenges for projects under NOGRR-245. At INS Engineering, we have been preparing for NOGRR-245 for many months. Our team worked closely with inverter vendors to fine-tune their models ahead of the rule’s implementation. In recent months, we’ve successfully helped numerous projects pass the newly mandated model quality tests. Contact our lead engineer (Tuan Ngo) to learn more about NOGRR-245 and how INS Engineering can help ensure your projects meet the new requirements.

INS is proud to partner with FIU and colleagues to support the DOE project from the advanced EMT modeling perspective.

Dr. Sumit Paudyal (ECE) has received a prestigious new award of $2.39 million from the Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technology Office (SETO). FIU is among the thirteen institutions selected under the Operation and Planning Tools for Inverter-Based Resource Management and Availability for Future Power Systems (OPTIMA) funding program. The project, titled "Advanced Methods for Integrating Renewables in Grid Planning (ADMIRE-GridPlan)," aims to address capability gaps in existing grid planning tools by developing innovative methods for critical and interrelated planning areas such as Adequacy, Reliability, Security, and Optimal Asset Utilization. The team will advance state-of-the-art grid planning tools by integrating novel, data-driven approaches to better accommodate variable renewable energy (VRE) at both transmission and distribution levels. The goal is to ensure robust adequacy planning and optimal asset utilization, focusing on enhancing resilience, equity, and decarbonization in grid planning through new grid-enhancing technologies (GETs). Additionally, the project will address challenges like leveraging distribution-level flexibility, planning for weather-related long-duration outages, and developing accurate and computationally efficient models for dynamic security assessments in low-inertia power grids. This collaborative project includes contributions from Florida International University (FIU), Clarkson University (CU), the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), and General Electric (GE), with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) providing support.

Jupiter Power is excited to announce today the achievement of commercial operations of 400MWh of dispatchable power to the ERCOT grid with a battery energy storage facility in Houston, Texas. Callisto I is the first transmission-connected battery energy storage project in the city of Houston, and will significantly increase Houston’s supply of reliable, zero emissions power. This amount of dispatchable power in the Houston city load center represents the success of market-based improvements by lawmakers to add competitive, dispatchable power to the ERCOT grid. With ERCOT expecting peak demand and tight conditions today, we are proud to be able to provide this amount of instantaneous, firm power. The Callisto I Energy Center is a 200MW/400MWh battery energy storage system located in central Houston, five miles from the Medical Center and ten miles from the Houston Ship Channel at the site of a former HL&P H.O. Clarke fossil fuel power plant. The site can accommodate an additional 400MW/800MWh of battery energy storage generation. Callisto I is Jupiter Power’s ninth project in ERCOT, bringing its total ERCOT fleet to 1,375MWh. In December of 2023, Jupiter Power announced the closing of a$65.2 million financing with First Citizens Bank to finance the construction of Callisto I.  Read the press release and find out more about Jupiter Power below: https://lnkd.in/gCkU3ysf
