This week was great. I had the pleasure of spending a day in Baton Rouge with good friends and industry leaders—North American Coalition for Insect Agriculture Vice Chair Erik Neff and Damian Tweedy of Fluker Farms. Touring their facilities and learning more about their business was a fantastic experience. We ended the day with a great meal that included David Fluker and Vance Noland. Advancing Insect-Based Solutions in Plant Nutrition 🌱 We had a great time at the AAPFCO 2025 Winter Annual Meeting and 25th Methods Forum in New Orleans, LA! Ian Banks and Aaron Hobbs stayed busy by participating in discussions about fertilizer and biostimulant regulations, including model bills, evolving definitions, and key regulatory updates that are shaping the future of sustainable agriculture. Beyond the insightful conversations, it’s been great reconnecting with old friends, meeting new colleagues, and expanding our network of professionals who are equally passionate about advancing sustainable solutions. These connections are invaluable as we continue advocating for insect frass as a valuable fertilizer and chitin as an innovative plant biostimulant. Connecting, Collaborating, and Advancing Insect Nutrition at AAFCO MidYear 2025!   We had a fun and productive first day at the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Midyear Meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas, January 21–23. It was a great opportunity to network, reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and we’re excited to share key developments from the event.   Key Ingredient Approvals: Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae (EnviroBug & EnviroMeal): OFFICIAL for finfish diets. Black Soldier Fly Larvae Oil (EnviroOil): OFFICIAL for adult cats; TENTATIVE for poultry. Dried Mealworm: OFFICIAL for adult dogs. Dried Crickets: OFFICIAL for adult dogs; TENTATIVE for adult cats.   Progress in Ingredient Pathways: The introduction of the AAFCO Ingredient Approval Process, in partnership with Kansas State University, and the adoption of AFIC approvals from the FDA into AAFCO’s Official Publication will further accelerate the approval of innovative feed solutions.   These advancements reaffirm our commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in animal nutrition. It Was Awesome! The North American Coalition for Insect Agriculture Annual Board and General Meetings yesterday were a great success. We worked through important and challenging issues for our industry and made sure to have fun while doing it.
