We supply high-performing Black Soldier Fly neonates to biotechnology companies and related businesses worldwide.

About us

BSF Breeding is a South African Black Soldier Fly (BSF) breeding company. Our proprietary technology allows us to supply Black Soldier Fly (BSF) neonates at scale to biotechnology companies that produce high-performing insect protein and oil used in the manufacturing of nutritional products for the animal and plant nutrition industries. A genetic study conducted by an independent institute in Belguim, rated our strain of neonates with the best ability to digest fibrous substrates, compared to 10 other strains. This implied a higher rate of survivability than any other strain. Our capacity to supply BSF neonates at scale, also offers businesses with high-volumes of organic waste to clear, an affordable and sustainable solution. And should you need it, we also consult on the building of efficient, BSF rearing facilities. Visit us at www.bsfbreeding.com or contact us at sales@bsfbreeding.com

  • The BSF industry is thriving with exciting opportunities. Here's a closer look at the 4 Key Functions that drive this rapidly growing sector. Swipe left to explore more: 1️⃣ Feed Plant: Converting organic waste into high-quality feed for Black Soldier Fly larvae, this process not only reduces waste but also transforms it into a valuable resource for sustainable production. 2️⃣ Grow-out: Feeding larvae with optimised nutrition to ensure rapid and efficient growth. This stage is crucial for maximising productivity and delivering top-quality larvae. 3️⃣ Processing: Separating frass (larvae waste) from the larvae to create valuable by-products. Frass becomes a premium fertiliser, while the larvae are prepared for further processing or sale. 4️⃣ Reproduction: Continuously supplying the Grow-out phase with newly hatched BSF neonates, ensuring a steady, sustainable supply of larvae for ongoing production. Our Commercial Director, Gerhard Gous, returned from a highly productive trip to the United States. Below, he shares some key highlights and takeaways from his travels: "I had a fantastic trip to the US ending last week! Connecting with all the BSF players at the North American Coalition for Insect Agriculture's AGM meeting was great. One of the highlights was visiting four clients in New York, and Washington DC, and engaging with clients from Pasco and California State, all with projected startups in 2025. All four clients strongly advocate for a decentralized model, where BSF Breeding will supply neonates for their projects to convert food waste, grains and cow manure into insect protein and frass. We’ve scheduled two monthly shipments starting in January, focusing on pausing technology to ensure access to nursery larvae every day. Exciting times ahead!" - Gerhard Gous #sustainability #circulareconomy #insectprotein #alternativeprotein #bsfl

Exciting news! We have expanded our shipments to new clients across the United States in response to the growing demand for premium Black Soldier Fly (BSF) neonates. This expansion is part of our strategy to enhance our global presence and establish innovative partnerships and directly contributes to Prosper Africa’s efforts in increasing two-way trade between Africa and the U.S. Supported by USAID Southern Africa, these collaborations are diversifying our export markets for BSF breeding. They contribute to the circular economy in the U.S. by supplying BSF growers with neonates that transform organic waste into protein for livestock, pet food, and even direct human consumption, while also reducing landfill waste. Our BSF Breeding customers will benefit from decreased carbon emissions and minimized toxin leakage into groundwater.   Our Commercial Director, Gerhard Gous, will be visiting the US in early November and would love to connect with both current and prospective clients. If you'd like to meet or explore how we can assist with your insect protein production, reach out to Gerhard at gerhard@bsfbreeding.com or connect with him on LinkedIn.   Let’s explore how we can help you grow your business!   #usaid #usaidATI #neonates #bsf #bsfl #bsfbreeding #alternativeprotein #biotech #biotechnology

Something big is happening in 12 days and we aren't talking about the US Election, but that is happening too. The members of NACIA will gather for our Annual Board and General Meetings. Once again this year we will meet in person in Apex, NC thanks to our gracious hosts and member EnviroFlight®. We will also have a virtual option for those unable to travel. Also this year, thanks the sponsorship of our members and friends Bühler Group, we'll gather for dinner on the evening of Nov. 5. The following day our Board of Directors will gather in the morning and our General meeting will take place in the afternoon. We have a lot of updates to share and will welcome colleagues from FDA, AAFCO, and other parts of USDA to our conversations. Our meeting is for members only, but there is still time to join the Association and participate virtually. Please reach out to Aaron Hobbs to join.
