Recently retired and with more time to devote to community leadership, former Encapsys president Mary Goggans is stepping into a co-chair leadership role with New North, Inc. as it closes in on its 20th anniversary as an 18-county nonprofit regional economic development corporation. Goggans was formally introduced as New North, Inc.’s newest co-chair June 6, but her connection and service to the board dates back to 2017. Connecting businesses and people in the New North
About us
Insight is all about connecting minds, creating insights. Our business-to-business clients rely on us to help share their stories — in our news magazines, in print and digital advertising and at our regional events. It’s a genuine, holistic approach to sharing ideas and information. It’s one that works. We are committed to fostering relationships among business and community leaders and others who care passionately about the economic success of Northeast Wisconsin, a community of 1.2 million people in the New North. This mission goes hand-in-hand with our desire to help regional businesses succeed and grow. We do this monthly in Insight magazine. (Our readers say, “I get a lot of magazines, but Insight is the only one I read!") We do this through Insight on Manufacturing, our bi-monthly magazine for manufacturers. We also do this through niche publications that fit our mission — including the New North Report and forwardHR, the Wisconsin SHRM publication for members of the Society of Human Resource Management. Digital versions of our magazines, our e-newsletters and social media posts reach those looking for more immediate means of communication. Our events appeal to those who find value in face-to-face communication, as attendees as well as sponsors. These include our InDevelopment conference in March, THINC! event in May and Manufacturing First Expo Conference in October. Since launching Insight Publications LLC in 2007, we have formed successful partnerships with such organizations as New North, Inc., the NEW Manufacturing Alliance, St. Norbert College, the Wisconsin Family Business Forum, Enterprising Nonprofits and more. We are proud to have gathered a team of creative professionals striving to outdo our personal best month after month. We also have award-winning partners in photography (Image Studios) and design (A2ZDesign). Insight Publications was honored to receive the “Rising Star” award from the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 2011.

The Northeast Wisconsin Chinese Association (NEWCA) was founded as a social club more than four decades ago by a pair of Lawrence University professors from Taiwan. The group disbanded during the pandemic, but in 2021 President Fanni Xie was inspired to bring the organization back as a 501(c)3 with a new scope and primary mission: promoting diversity and cultural understanding. A lot of NEWCA’s work under Xie’s leadership has come in the form of presentations and performances at schools, libraries and cultural festivals, but its signature event is the Northeast Wisconsin Dragon Boat Festival, which is scheduled this year for Sept. 14 at Leach Amphitheater in Oshkosh. Learn more about the festival in our August issue: https://loom.ly/fmKMWP4

Earlier this summer we hosted a job shadow for Chloe, a soon-to-be junior at Denmark Viking Academy. Chloe is interested in publishing as a future career, so she pursued a job shadow through Inspire Wisconsin which connects students with career exploration opportunities. Chloe got to experience a "day in the life" of our editorial staff -- participating in a team meeting, proofing a publication being sent to print and even sitting in during a live radio spot on Focus Fox Valley! Best of luck in your new school year and future career, Chloe. You have the ambition and drive to accomplish whatever you set your mind to 💪

In many ways, Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm and Shop is Martine and Edgar Anderson’s delicately-scented love letter to Washington Island. After the Andersons retired to the rocky Door County enclave, they found themselves involved in efforts to address the island’s economic development struggles. So 11 years ago, drawing on Martine’s childhood in the south of France, they opened Fragrant Isle — the Midwest’s largest lavender farm — as a way to create jobs and boost business on Washington Island.
