This is Women in AI! Heading back to NYC, I'm still buzzing with excitement after moderating the largest Women in AI event at #SFTechWeek2024! 🧠✨ The atmosphere was exceptional, creating the perfect space for sharing ideas, research, and personal stories. I'm overcome with gratitude for this experience. A huge thank you to all the attendees! Amélie Vavrovsky; A true visionary blending law and AI, Amélie is a CodeX Fellow at Stanford Law and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree. Her company, Formally, is doing amazing things – providing tech-driven legal support and partnering with nonprofits to help asylum-seekers. Stephanie Haven: The queen of making complex AI concepts crystal clear! 👑🤖 Currently a Tech Policy Fellow at University of California, Berkeley, Stephanie's research offers crucial insights into AI's role in global crises. Check out her recent article in Tech Policy Press: It's a must read into the challenges of voluntary commitments made by tech companies and the US government. Rachel Soh: Global Lead of Product Partnerships at Google DeepMind, Rachel is a master at fostering collaborations that push AI forward. When she speaks about the potential of AI to solve real-world problems you can't help but get excited about the future she envisions. Prashanthi Ramachandran: She's killing it as a SWE at Instalily leading the charge on client solutions. She’s passionate about fostering academic partnerships and mentorship, helping to bridge the gap between industry and education. Deniz Turkcapar: A rockstar senior SWE & the Global VP of Women in Tech Salesforce. Deniz's blend of technical expertise and advocacy makes her a powerful voice in the push for more inclusive and ethical AI systems. Engaging with these brilliant minds was an honor and an absolute pleasure! They ignited a spark of inspiration that left so many of us inspired for what's to come. A massive shoutout to my amazing Instalily team: I'm constantly amazed by how well this team works together. Special thanks to Laryn Qi Mateo Godoy Mars Tan and Morgann Thain for their event support! I also want to praise our incredible interns Ena Selman-Housein Brigit Jacob Yulai Fan Salma Badr.Your hard work and dedication were instrumental in making this event so special. Sumantro Das and Amit Shah, your mentorship and trust in me have reinforced my confidence to grow. Thank your for giving me the space to build, and to push myself. Looking back on this event, I'm reminded of my childhood dream to be a ballerina-scientist-businesswoman; it feels like that dream is coming to life! 🩰👩🔬👩💼 Exciting news: We've launched HerAINetwork, a community founded by Instalily AI women to empower women in AI. Join us in shaping the future of AI! 🚀 Women in AI: Leading the Future of Technology I had the privilege of attending an inspiring panel at Tech SF Week last Friday, featuring incredible leaders in AI: Stephanie Haven, Amélie Vavrovsky, Rachel Soh, Deniz Turkcapar, and Prashanthi Ramachandran. These women are shaping the future of AI with their innovation, leadership, and passion. Here are three key takeaways from the event: 1️⃣ AI as a Catalyst for Connection Imagine walking into a doctor’s office and filling out a 25-question form before you even get to talk to the doctor. What if AI could take that step away, instantly gathering all the necessary information so you can focus on connecting with your doctor? AI is already bridging these gaps, creating faster, more meaningful interactions. 2️⃣ AI for Disaster Analysis and Prediction Before AI, disaster response teams had to send people to physically scout areas affected by floods or fires, taking days to gather information and plan aid deployment. Now, with AI and satellite imagery, this process can be completed in as little as two hours. AI is revolutionizing disaster prediction and analysis by providing real-time insights into flood and fire risks, allowing governments and aid organizations to respond faster and more effectively. AI is being used to predict natural disasters in ways that were once unimaginable, making it a game-changer in emergency response. 3️⃣ Podcasts and Books for Ethical AI Enthusiasts Some recommendations from the panel. The book Unmasked AI. Podcasts: B the Way Forward by AnitaB who puts on the Grace Hopper Celebration, Lex Friedman, Pivot, and Acquired. Huge shoutout to these trailblazers for sharing their insights. Thanks Instalily and Amit Shah for bringing us together and buying croissants and coffee. 🥐 #WomenInTech #AIInnovation #TechLeadership #AIForGood

It's almost the end of #sftechweek, which was also my first week back in SF! Out of all the great events I've been to, I want to give a shoutout to the one organized by Instalily. They kicked off a community called HerAINetwork, and brought together so many incredible and inspiring women in one place. Being in a room where women aren't a total minority felt super motivating and made me want to get out there and make things happen. The panel with Stephanie Haven who talked about ethical AI and tech policy, Amélie Vavrovsky shared about how to legal work more accessible at Formally, Rachel Soh about her experience in Google DeepMind, Deniz Turkcapar as SWE at Salesforce, and Prashanthi Ramachandran was super interesting. I could've listened to them all day! Sumantro Das & Amit Shah, thanks for making this happen. We need more of this!

Thrilled to share this thought-provoking piece from MIT Sloan Management Review’s latest panel on responsible AI! 🤖✨ I had the honor of joining a distinguished panel of experts like Katia Walsh, Ph.D. and Riyanka Roy Choudhury to discuss whether companies should be mandated to disclose their use of AI in their products. My take: “Mandating AI disclosures for these ubiquitous uses could lead to notification fatigue, diminishing the impact of more critical disclosures… Ultimately, fostering AI literacy through education and promoting responsible AI development practices would be more effective than mandatory disclosures in ensuring ethical AI use and protecting consumer interests.” 📚💡 Make sure to check out the piece for an array of perspectives on how to materialize more responsible AI applications and development. I’d love to hear your thoughts! 💬🤔 Huge thanks to Elizabeth M. Renieris, David Kiron, Steve Mills, and everyone at MIT Sloan Management Review for your invaluable contributions to these critical conversations around responsible AI. 🙏 Link to read more: https://lnkd.in/dNibQyTj #AITransparency #Instalily #BuildInPublic
