ILPA Managing Director of External Affairs and Sustainable Investing Matthew D. Schey recently joined PitchBook for a webinar on perceptions and trends around #ESG and #ImpactInvesting, and reacted to findings from their recent sustainability survey. According to Pitchbook’s survey, perceptions around ESG in #PrivateMarkets aren’t matching up with reality. Data showed that while LPs and GPs often think the other is more likely to be backing away from their focus on sustainable investing or ESG, in practice a majority are holding steady or increasing their focus on these areas. Recent pushback and rhetoric around ESG has the industry being more cautious about how they are talking about their work. “Some firms are being cautious about how they talk about ESG externally, but environmental, social, and governance considerations have been relevant to investors well before the rise of the [ESG] acronym’s popularity and investors remain focused on identifying and managing risks material to a given sector or company regardless of the terminology being used to describe the approach,” explained Schey. https://lnkd.in/ebRMmRGw

We the Japan Venture Capital Association (JVCA) successfully hosted the Global Venture Capital Congress for the first time in Japan. The event brought together delegates from all over the world, such as Chairs and CEOs of associations like the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) in the US and the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA). To commemorate the first GVCC Assembly in Japan, a symposium to foster interactions between such global delegates and our Japanese VCs, CVCs, and startups was held at the Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower, in Tokyo on Oct. 28.
