Dr. Soumya Chakraborty, a FAIMER Fellow, is making history as the first founding Director cum Dean of the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR) in the city of Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, a state in northeastern India. NIMSR opened in 2023 as the state's first medical college. Even after 60 years of statehood, Nagaland lacked a medical college until NIMSR's establishment under Dr. Chakraborty's leadership, introducing an MBBS program and 21 departments to a region where, as she puts it, "the concept of medical education was an alien subject until 2023." Dr. Chakraborty attributes many of these accomplishments to the professional development offered through the FAIMER Fellowship. Reflecting on her journey, she shared: “If there was no FAIMER Institute in my life, nothing would have been possible… FAIMER grooms one holistically towards attaining professional development, expanding the horizon, and empowering one to achieve greatness.” Her achievements underscore the importance of expanding medical education and infrastructure in underserved areas. We are proud to celebrate her contributions to the field and her commitment to improving health care outcomes. #Intealth #FAIMER #FAIMERFellows

International medical graduates (IMGs) are critically important to our ability to provide accessible, high-quality health care in the United States. IMGs also add much needed diversity and international perspectives to clinical learning and practice environments. ECFMG Certification is the standard for evaluating the qualifications of IMGs entering the U.S. health care system, and last year we certified 12,991 physicians representing 1,550 medical schools in 147 countries. Intealth joins the American Medical Association in its #IMGWeek celebration this week to recognize and highlight the contributions of IMGs to the U.S. physician workforce. #IMGs #GlobalHealth #MedicalEducation #Intealth
