𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲—𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. With that in mind, last Friday, we looked to one of nature’s most efficient builders as we celebrated #IntegerDay – our tradition of stepping back to look at our work, and the world from a different perspective. This year we explored what honeybees can teach us about collaboration, decision-making, and the elegant functionality of the honeycomb. 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵. 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Drawing from Tom Seeley's lifelong research summarized in #HoneybeeDemocracy, we examined how bees communicate, debate, and make clear, collective decisions. Their process – balancing individual input with collective action – offers valuable insights for those of us working to bring scientific breakthroughs to life. Just like honeybees work collaboratively, we rely on cross-disciplinary collaboration and expertise to translate cutting edge science into solutions that strengthen global health. And, like honeybees, moving from debate, to decision, to action is essential for us to be successful. 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘’𝗦 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 Beyond the bees’ behavior, the honeycomb itself sparked new thinking for our team. Turns out honeycomb is a perfect tessellation, its repeating hexagonal pattern fitting seamlessly together with no gaps. We set out to find other tessellations and discovered them everywhere – in art, architecture, and nature including protein structures, molecular arrangements, and self-assembling materials, where biological systems optimize stability and function. These same principles guide our approach to #immunovirology, where structure and precision determine the success of new therapies. Tessellations are adaptable, strong, resilient, efficient and uniquely beautiful – just like the people behind the science that drives our mission. 𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞 𝗢𝗙 𝗔𝗥𝗧 Inspired by these lessons, we created our own honeycomb – each of us contributing a unique piece to a collective work of art. Like the tessellations in nature, every contribution matters. Individual expertise, curiosity, and diverse perspectives come together to form something greater – whether in art, science, or the work we do together every day to push the boundaries of science for the sake of human health. For all of us at IntegerBio, 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 – 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆. #IntegerDay #Honeycomb #Teamwork #Tessellation #Curiosity #pioneeringImmunovirology
