Countering ransomware remains one of the top priorities for nations and their law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Recently featured in Security Magazine, Michael DeBolt, Chief Intelligence Officer at Intel 471, emphasizes that ransomware remains one of the most prevalent and dangerous cyber threats facing organizations. While law enforcement action may deter some threat actors, others will continue to engage in ransomware unphased. But these actions do impose costs, both psychological and financial. Good news in cybercrime today: a significant malware infostealer operation has been disrupted. The Dutch National Police, FBI and other agencies gained full access to the infrastructure for the Redline and Meta infostealers. Police now have data including threat actor usernames, passwords, IP addresses, time stamps and registration data as well as other data including source code, license servers, REST-API servers, panels and Telegram bots. The video at the website linked below has a chyron showing the nicks of VIP users, which the voiceover humorously says means "Very Important to the Police." Both are malware workhorses that Intel 471 has tracked closely. These infostealers vacuum up vast amounts of credentials, financial data and more, which are often sold onto ransomware groups and other financially-motivated cybercriminals. More information about Operation Magnus is coming in 12 hours. The law enforcement website is here: https://lnkd.in/gJ8jGnMw #infosec

As we wrap up Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we're focusing on a growing challenge: AI and its role in spreading disinformation. The rise of AI-generated content, including deepfakes, makes it increasingly difficult to separate fact from fiction. This year alone, we've seen AI-enabled disinformation targeting major global events like the Paris Olympics and political elections. From deepfake videos falsely attributed to public figures to AI-generated robocalls aimed at misleading voters, the risks are real and evolving quickly. We hope you enjoyed this month's video series, but just because Cybersecurity Awareness Month is ending doesn't mean your journey to stay informed should. Keeping up with the latest cybersecurity threats and learning how to protect yourself is an ongoing effort that will help keep you, your data, and your organization secure. A recent article by CSO Online highlights how CISOs have to get on top of artificial intelligence technologies to defend their organizations, because threat actors are already using generative AI (genAI) to create malware. Ashley Jess, senior threat analyst at Intel 471, explains how the main way AI has been changing the threat landscape is by lowering barriers to entry for the use of this advanced technology. Ashley emphasizes how she has seen threat actors offer specialized AI tools to the criminal market, including one that collects information about the success of social engineering lures and then uses AI to visualize which lures were the most effective. In the latest episode of Studio 471, host Jeremy Kirk sits down with Professor Peter Swire from Georgia Tech to explore the complex world of data localization and its impact on cybersecurity. With more regulations requiring local data processing, sharing vital cyber threat intelligence could be restricted, limiting efforts to detect and respond to threats. Swire shares his research findings on this issue, highlighting the benefits and challenges of these regulations for threat hunters and cybersecurity teams. 🎧 Tune in to discover how privacy laws can complicate information sharing for threat detection and what strategies can help keep cybersecurity operations effective: https://hubs.la/Q02VLmLB0 Access Professor Peter Swire's published papers: 🔗 "The Effects of Data Localization on Cybersecurity - Organizational Effects": https://hubs.la/Q02VLmV20 🔗 "Risks to cybersecurity from data localization, organized by techniques, tactics and procedures": https://hubs.la/Q02VLvcs0 #Cybersecurity #DataLocalization #ThreatIntelligence #Studio471

A recent article from a Romanian publication, Club It&C, highlights how cyber threat intelligence can help boost critical infrastructure resiliency for NIS2. Intel 471 was mentioned as the trusted “eyes and ears” beyond the wire as many of the world’s largest critical infrastructure organisations choose Intel 471. Intel 471’s researchers specialise in cyber human intelligence (HUMINT), enabled by direct relationships with key cyber crime threat actors that have been established over several years. Security teams use Intel 471’s HUNTER471 platform to run and coordinate intelligence-driven threat hunts that identify malicious behaviors in their environment and close logging visibility gaps in security tools.
