  • Reflecting the diversity of coral reef scientists globally, our journal Coral Reefs now offers the option to include abstracts in languages other than English. At this stage, the acceptable languages include French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Japanese. Both English and non-English abstracts will be included in all versions of the manuscript. Coral Reefs is dedicated to sharing diverse and multidisciplinary papers spanning various fields of coral reef science. From analytical to theoretical papers, we focus on understanding and managing coral reef systems and organisms. We invite you to explore academic papers and join us in our mission to conserve and preserve the wonders of coral reefs! ➡ https://lnkd.in/g2vtVkB2 🌊🐚 #CoralReefs #Science #Management #Research #ICRS 🐠 🐬

🌏🪸 We invite you to join a groundbreaking global effort to observe the spawning of the coral species Porites rus. Over the past three years, 426 observations across 18 islands have shown that Porites rus spawns predictably on the same day, from French Polynesia to La Réunion Island. Now, we aim to explore if this synchronization occurs on a global scale. The “Connected by the Reef – Te firi a’au” initiative, coordinated by the NGO Tama nō te tairoto and endorsed by the #OceanDecade, seeks to mobilize observers worldwide to witness this coral spawning event on January 18-19, 2025. Together, we hope to determine if our coral reefs are truly connected. 🔗 Learn more: https://ow.ly/ckPK50U27Y8

🚨 Coral reefs are currently experiencing their worst-ever global bleaching event, with the Fourth Global Bleaching Event (#4GBE) pushing corals to their limit – threatening the foundations of ocean biodiversity 📣  In order to implement effective, collaborative solutions #ForCoral to ensure a future for #coralreefs, we need to understand their status and trends on regional and global scales. 🪸To achieve this, the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN) is currently calling for data contributions to produce its seventh global assessment - the “Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2025” report. Learn more about the #GCRMN, the Status of Coral Reefs of the World series, and how to contribute your coral reef monitoring data for this global effort through 2 webinars being hosted this month! The webinars will dive into the process of data collation and integration, and provide a valuable space to discuss how the data are used, stored and analysed 📊 You can register for the webinars below, or visit www.gcrmn.net/2025-report for more information: 🌎 Webinar 1: 08:00 EST (UTC -5), Tuesday 12 Nov. 2024 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/egMrzRgt 🌏 Webinar 2: 10:00 AEDT (UTC +11), Wednesday 13 Nov. 2024 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e2MksqJs Live translation into English, French & Spanish will be available 🗣️ Given the urgency to conserve coral reefs, the GCRMN is an essential mechanism for Governments, organisations and the coral community to take stock of the world’s reefs 🌎 #WorldCoralReefStatus

  • Are you passionate about safeguarding coral reefs⁉ Join the International Coral Reef Society (ICRS) and connect with a global network of dedicated individuals like yourself‼ The ICRS actively supports the next generation of coral reef researchers through the Ruth Gates Award and Graduate Fellowships. These grants have funded numerous scholarships, empowering early-career scientists and graduate students to conduct crucial research. Every four years, ICRS brings together the global coral reef community at the International Coral Reef Symposium. These meetings bring together scientists, policymakers, and conservationists to advance coral reef science and management. The Society remains committed to supporting these symposia and related events to ensure a sustainable future for coral reefs. ❣ We'd love to hear your thoughts❗ If you have any ideas on how ICRS can serve you better or improve our programs, feel free to reach out to us at ➡ https://lnkd.in/gY5U7zRB

Come join the International Coral Reef Society for "Positivity in the face of Global Coral Bleaching" at the #ForCoral Pavilion - International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) Pavilion - at the #COP16 🇨🇴 ➡️ See in person in the Blue Zone of the COP or livestream at https://lnkd.in/eufEyGET (24/10/24 16:00 - 17:00). The Fourth Global Coral Bleaching Event was officially confirmed by NOAA in April 2024 with bleaching events still occurring in some regions up to six months after the announcement. This event will provide examples of recent bleaching events and their impacts while also identifying actions and approaches to mitigate the effects of bleaching and improve the resilience of coral reef ecosystems. Perspectives will be heard from both young and established researchers, local community representatives and on linkages with the Global Biodiversity Framework. New research-based approaches will be highlighted as well as the need to maintain positivity in the face of global change to safeguard this most biodiverse marine ecosystem and the services it provides for people. Areas of discussion will include innovative research, indigenous knowledge, community-based management, capacity building and mentoring, well-being, action plans, resilience-based restoration, global agreements / processes (CBD GBF and IPBES), ecosystem tipping points and the need for transformative change.
