Exciting news from Zambia! With support from the JRS Biodiversity Foundation, the International Crane Foundation (ICF) is advancing research on a number of taxa occurring on the Kafue Flats, not only on avifauna, but herpetofauna, aquatic fauna and mammals as well. During our recent field assessment, we deployed camera traps to uncover the elusive nocturnal mammals of the region. We're thrilled to share that we recorded 8 fascinating species, including the Side-Striped Jackal, Honey Badger, Cape Porcupine, Aardvark, Four-toed Elephant Shrew, African Genet, African Civet, and Serval Cat! These findings highlight the incredible biodiversity of Zambia and the importance of ongoing research to protect these amazing creatures. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey to safeguard wildlife! 📷 Douglas Munenga/ International Crane Foundation/ Endangered Wildlife Trust

Exciting News from the Kafue Flats in Zambia! We have successfully trained 33 local students in climate-smart agriculture techniques to plant maize (corn), which is growing well even in the face of a current drought. This initiative is a big step towards climate smart sustainable farming and promoting environmental stewardship in schools. Kudos to everyone involved for the dedication and effort in making this project a success which would not have been possible without the support from Elephant Charge. #ClimateSmartAgriculture #SustainableFarming #ElephantCharge #KafueFlats

We are still smiling after seeing these three dedicated craniacs receive our annual Good Egg Award last weekend at Member Appreciation Day. Each has volunteered for over 30 years at the International Crane Foundation (wow!), supporting our mission through guided tours of the Cranes of the World, assisting with prairie restoration, and so much more.🥚 Click on each photo to read their award inscriptions (and be inspired!) 📷 Hannah Jones/International Crane Foundation #SaveCranes

We are thrilled to share that with Elephant Charge in Zambia, we are harnessing the power of sports to raise awareness about conservation and environmental issues among students. Recently, we hosted a Sports4Conservation tournament in the Kafue Flats bringing together students, teachers, community members, Resource Board Members and traditional leaders. The event served as a vital platform to promote conservation awareness and inspire action. The Kafue Flats is home to 30% of the world's Wattled Crane population. Thank you to everyone who joined us in this important mission. Together, we can make a difference! #ElephantCharge #Sports4Conservation #KafueFlats #ProtectOurEnvironment

"When looking for innovative ways to protect cranes, we always start by talking to the local communities. By working with the people that live there, as well as the local governments, together we can figure out the best way forward, combining community health and conservation effort." ~ Dr Joseph Mwangi, International Crane Foundation Kenya Country Manager Read more- https://lnkd.in/gTp65Ubi #SaveCranes #Conservation Jodi Legge Sara Gavney Moore Mwape Sichilongo
