Statistics show: "Inequalities in cancer screening and survival rates are associated with race/ethnicity. For example, for colorectal cancer (CRC), compared to the general population, U.S. Latinos have lower CRC screening rates (29%), are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced CRC, and have lower survival rates, and African Americans (AAs) have the highest CRC incidence and mortality." In a recent study, oncologists and PCPs from a large public safety-net hospital system in Houston, TX were surveyed regarding the shared care of patients with cancer and chronic medical conditions. The majority reported moderate levels of interprofessional collaboration and felt that existing processes to facilitate coordination of care and comorbidity management were inadequate. "The failure rates and recurrence rates of Head and Neck Cancers (HNCs) in India are soaring, which is a challenge, with patients being unaffordable to the newer treatments of full-dose checkpoint inhibitors," according to an abstract by Dr Satheesh Chiradoni Thungappa. However, the addition of low-dose immunotherapy to chemotherapy could change outcomes for this staggering number of patients with further research needed to confirm the treatment's efficacy.
