My IIT funded by BeiGene is now open and accruing at Miami Cancer Institute. Our goal is to evaluate efficacy and safety of the outpatient Pemetrexed Zanubrutinib combination in patients with relapsed refractory primary central nervous system lymphoma as well as isolated CNS relapse of systemic DLBCL. We wanted our trial to include real world populations, therefore patients with controlled HIV, Hep B, Hep C, low performance status due to their disease, as well as elderly, are included. It’s time to offer our patients more than grueling high dose methotrexate treatments. Patients with refractory disease and early relapses would make great candidates. See full inclusion and exclusion criteria on clinicaltrials.gov I am the PI, yuliyal@baptisthealth.net https://lnkd.in/evmDbfCX Zanubrutinib With Pemetrexed to Treat Relapsed/Refractory Primary and Secondary Central Nervous System (CNS) Lymphomas NCT05681195

Women are three times more likely to develop thyroid cancer than men, owing to their different hormonal make up, particularly women in their 40s and 50s, while men typically encounter it in their 60s and 70s. Therefore, prevention and early detection are the silent guardians in the fight against thyroid cancer. #thyroidcancer #thyroidhealth #healthcare #genderhealthgap https://lnkd.in/d6vVm5h6

Lymphoma is a cancer affecting the lymphatic system, characterized by abnormal growth of lymphocytes. It includes Hodgkin lymphoma, often curable, and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is more common and varied in prognosis. Key symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, fever, night sweats, fatigue, itching, pain, and unexplained weight loss. Risk factors include age, sex, family history, infectious mononucleosis, and immunodeficiency. Early detection and treatment are crucial for managing this condition effectively. #Lymphoma #CancerAwareness #Healthcare #Immunology #Oncology https://lnkd.in/dxckTNDW

The recent WHO report has delivered some sobering news. Colorectal cancer is projected to become more prevalent, with the American Cancer Society noting a shift towards impacting younger age groups—a cause for genuine concern. In my capacity as a gastrointestinal specialist, this underscores the urgency of awareness and early intervention. Recognising early symptoms, staying attuned to changes in bowel habits, and being mindful of any signs your body might be signaling are crucial. Taking proactive steps towards regular screenings, especially if there's a family history involved, can be a game-changer in early detection. https://lnkd.in/dnnMFNwZ

Today is World Lymphoma Awareness Day – a day that holds profound meaning for me, both as Chair of Lymphoma Australia and as a two-time lymphoma survivor. Lymphoma doesn’t discriminate. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds, with more than 735,000 people globally being diagnosed each year, and approximately 7,000 Australians facing this diagnosis annually. While the journey through diagnosis and treatment can be daunting, there is hope. The advancements in research, treatments, and the unwavering support from the lymphoma community remind us that we are not alone in this fight. This year, World Lymphoma Awareness Day is focused on raising awareness of lymphoma’s signs and symptoms, encouraging early detection, and reducing misdiagnosis. It is vital that people recognise the warning signs, understand the importance of timely medical advice, and feel empowered to strongly advocate for their health. Across Australia today, many iconic buildings will be lit up in lime green, symbolizing our unity and support for those affected by lymphoma. This show of solidarity is a reminder of the importance of standing together in the fight against this disease. Lymphoma Australia’s mission is to ensure that every person affected by lymphoma has access to the best care, support, and treatment. We are dedicated to raising awareness, educating both the public and healthcare professionals, and advocating for research to find a cure. Through our patient support programs, advocacy efforts, and community education initiatives, we strive to improve the quality of life for lymphoma patients and their families across Australia. On this day, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all those who have supported Lymphoma Australia’s mission—our CEO and team, our dedicated Board of Directors, our Lymphoma nurses, researchers, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and every individual affected by lymphoma. Your strength, resilience, and commitment to raising awareness make a difference. Let’s continue to amplify our voices, share our stories, and shine a lime light on the importance of early detection, research, and access to treatment. Together, we can pave the way for a better future for all impacted lymphoma wherever you are in Australia. #WorldLymphomaAwarenessDay #LymphomaAustralia #lymphomainthelimelight

Metastatic cancer patients report Financial Toxicity (FT) Cancer Support Community Cancer Experience Registry data identified 484 individuals with metastatic cancer who competed the COST survey. The most common cancers were metastatic breast (31%), lung (13%), gynecologic (10%), and colorectal (9%). One-half reported some degree of FT. Individuals less than one year since their cancer diagnosis and those who reported lower income or less education had greater odds of reporting FT. Individuals with any level of FT were more likely to report postponing medical visits, suboptimal medication adherence, and delaying supportive care and/or psychosocial support services compared to those without FT. We can do better. With an estimated 19 million U.S. cancer survivors in 2024, improvements in overall long-term survivorship for individuals with metastatic disease, and the rising costs of treatment, providers must systematically screen and intervene to prevent and mitigate FT for cancer survivors and their families. https://lnkd.in/daiZBmVb https://lnkd.in/dxZeRAis #cancer #cancertreatment #patientadvocacy https://lnkd.in/djCU6sHx

The latest findings reported by The Wall Street Journal reveal a concerning 13% rise in cancer diagnosis rates among individuals under 50 in the U.S., escalating from 95.6 cases per 100,000 people in 2000 to 107.8 in 2019. Ahmedin Jemal, PhD, SVP at the American Cancer Society, emphasizes the urgency in understanding this surge to prevent a potential reversal of the progress made in the last 50 years. Gastrointestinal cancers, especially colorectal cancer, are skyrocketing among young individuals. The rate of colon cancer diagnoses has doubled from 1 in 10 in 1995 to 1 in 5 in 2019, with a growing number of young adults diagnosed at advanced stages. Amidst these challenges, Forge Health offers vital psycho-oncology services, supporting both patients and caregivers. With specialized training, our staff are properly equipped to understand the unique challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis. Guy Maytal #cancersupport #behavioralhealth
