As the global #poultry meat sector navigates the continuously evolving avian influenza situation, it is clear that science based approaches and interventions will determine our chances of success in controlling the disease and minimizing its adverse impact on food security. Interventions that lead with biosecurity, and potential tools as vaccination, supported by surveillance, have to work in the context of a broad and solid global framework, shielding our animals, protecting public health and allowing trade of our products to fulfil their key role in achieving global food security. IPC proactively engages in relevant discussions, such as that of IABS - International Alliance for Biological Standardization to pursue those goals. 🐓🦃🦆

🎙️ Dennis Erpelding was interviewed by Feedstuffs earlier this week, to share an update on the livestock industry in the private sector's progress on #AntiMicrobialResistance, after the #UNHL declaration reinforced the need to take action against it. Dennis stated that a lot of progress has been achieved globally in the last 20 years to address antimicrobial resistance and in understanding what we need to do to intervene in the process. As an outcome, the private sector is increasingly putting into practice antimicrobial use stewardship principles, which is an effort to avoid the need for use of antimicrobials, yet when needed, ensure there responsible use. He notes action starts at the farm level. Dennis also talked about #TRANSFORM as a "model for the future" to strengthen global health security, improve #AnimalHealth and increase access to affordable animal proteins. IPC supports and it's part of the #TRANSFORM project, leading the adoption of the antimicrobial stewardship principles. Support now reaching over 140 countries and representing over 40% of global poultry meat production spanning all sectors of poultry production from fully integrated systems to small farms. 🐔 🦃 🦆 Watch the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/ddUDmpcq
What is the role of regulatory authorities and that of the private sector when it comes to addressing the issue of antimicrobial resistance? What about progress to date to minimize risk? Dennis Erpelding of Global Farm View joins us with an update and discussion of what's next.

We are honoured to announce that #TRANSFORM has been named to Fortune’s 2024 Change the World list! Fortune's 2024 list showcases 52 companies globally that have created significant social or environmental impact through their profit-driven strategies and operations, spanning a range of industries including technology, space, e-commerce, and health care. It’s a tremendous recognition to be chosen in such a variety of industries and projects. For those who are reading about the project for the first time, #TRANSFORM is a private sector led initiative that aims to reduce the emergence and spread of zoonotic and transboundary diseases, while combatting antimicrobial resistance and reducing threats to human health around the world thereby improving farmers livelihoods and strengthening global health security. IPC is working alongside Cargill and Heifer International in this USAID funded project, to advance research and provide farmers with trainings on how to keep their animals healthy. And promote responsible use of antibiotics. This nomination reflects the team’s dedication to improve #animalhealth and #foodsecurity and the concrete impact this work is having. Congratulations, Team #TRANSFORM! Follow International Poultry Council for news and updates about #TRANSFORM

September 23 to 25, IPC took part in the FAO Global Conference on Animal Health Innovation, Reference Centres and Vaccines at FAO headquarters in Rome. The Secretary General, Nicolò Cinotti, took stage on a panel interview, where he was asked to share thoughts on the most common barriers in Public-Private Partnership and on suggestions to overcome them. "Relying on science and data is key, those should be our common language. We need to make sure everyone speaks with the same metrics". IPC believes that innovation is the way forward to preserve #AnimalHealth, with vaccines being a key tool in a broader preventive approach. The International Poultry Council (IPC) welcomes the Political Declaration reached Thursday at the United Nations General Assembly to step up action against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). At the High-Level ministerial meeting in New York, UN member countries committed to concrete actions to address AMR across all sectors, through a One Health approach. The Declaration is a strong signal of the global consensus on the necessity to address this serious global health threat. IPC provided inputs into the drafting process seeking to build upon its ongoing commitment to tackle AMR via the USAID-funded private sector led project TRANSFORM. This initiative is a key step and a clear example of impactful Public Private Partnership. IPC's role in TRANSFORM is built around its global Antimicrobial Use Stewardship Principles, and aims at advancing a global understanding on how to avoid the need for the use of antimicrobials, yet when needed ensure antimicrobials are used properly in poultry meat production. To date via the TRANSFORM project, supporters reach over 140 countries representing over 40% of global poultry meat production spanning all sectors of poultry production from fully integrated systems to small farms.
